Another top US Official visit Zambia
In a bide to cement relationship with Zambia another top official in charge of International Trade for the United States of America (US) government is in Zambia.
Just last month a top official of the Biden Administration in charge of Treasury was in Zambia together with the Managing Director of International Monitory Fund (IMF).
Hichilema unlike his predecessors who went East to China has gone west to US and Europe a move which has been received with mixed feelings.
US has been trying to stop the influence of China in Africa. China has invested heavily in Africa in infrastructure through giving grants and loans.
In Zambia among other noticable infrastructure is an ultramodern multimillion dollar International conference centre and an International Airport.
Zambians are yet to see what the US Government will do by the end of term of the UPND Administration they are supporting. So far nothing tangible to point at apart from promises of investment in the economy.
President Hichilema who hosted the top US Official at State House this morning posted the following message on his Facebook page:
This morning we welcomed US Under Secretary for International Trade, Ms. Marisa Lago.
This visit comes on the back of our talks with US Secretary of Commerce, Ms. Gina Raimundo and Under Secretary Lago at the Africa Leadership summit in Washington last December.
Through her we expressed our appreciation to the American citizens for supporting our country through initiatives like the $30million TradeBoost Zambia program under USAID. This has brought business opportunities through trade and investments for our women and youth.
We explored further our discussion on the Commercial MOU that will leverage our shared interests into closer business linkages between our two nations and drive inclusive economic growth.
We were pleased to learn that there is great interest in Zambia among the USA business community. This is welcome news in our push to position Zambia as a processing hub and food basket for the region through value addition.
Looking forward to advancing our discussions towards enhanced bilateral trade between Zambia and the USA for the mutual economic prosperity of our people.
