Angry mob beat up Tazanian truck driver in Mufulira

Angry Mufulira residents on Tuesday attacked a Tanzanian truck driver Geoffrey Zowa 28 for allegedly killing two teenage girls pedestrians after they were run over by his vehicle.

Police Deputy Public Relation Officer, Charity Chanda said the driver was severely beaten and sustained injuries and is admitted to Ronald Ross hospital.

She has meanwhile identified the two teens as Sampa Chungu and Hadassa Pola of Mwebupya flats and Kantashi Township respectively. She said Sampa died on the spot while Haddassa died upon arrival at the hosipital.

Chanda said in a statement on Wednesday June 26 that the incident happened  in Mufulira after the driver who was driving a scania truck Reg No. T924 BYA and T 150 BZB hit the girls who were on the road side after failing to keep his lane.

And in a related development a passenger identified as Jonathan died on the spot after a Mercedes ran over him. Chanda said the incident happened when the driver, Kelvin Gondwe lost control of the vehicle and in the process went off the road and the trailer fell running over the deceased.

The incident happened in Kalulushi and the driver is on the run  while police have launched a man hunt for him.
