President Edgar Lungu’s press aide Amos Chanda says he regrets the insults he showered on NDC sadow leader Chishimba Kambwili, calling it “a moment of lapse in judgement in the face of relentless malice from a person with whom I have no personal offense whatsoever.”

Chanda has however stopped short of apologising to Kambwili, in particular, for any anguish his insults may have caused him.

“In an unguarded moment, I responded harshly to incessant unprovoked and malicious personal attacks from Mr. Chishimba Kambwili who repeatedly abused me publicly, but has also been invading my private space as he did in a recent phone call he made to me using a third party phone line,” Chanda said in a statement issued in his personal capacity on Thursday,

“Upon reflection, I regret that I should not have responded in the manner I did, despite the deep personal injury that his unwarranted attacks have caused both in my private and public capacities. My harsh response was definitely a moment of lapse in judgement in the face of relentless malice from a person with whom I have no personal offense whatsoever.”

He stated that he would no longer respond to the rebel Roan PF member of parliament but wait for the legal process to run its full course.

“Given that six months ago, Mr. Kambwili took me to court, and I counter-demanded against him in the same case over many of the false allegations he has made. I will no longer respond any of his provocations whatsoever. Instead, I will let the legal process to run its full course.”

In the past week Chanda and Kambwili have been involved in a slinging match that culminated in Chanda unleashing a torrent of unprintables in a phone conversation the latter recorded and made public.

The audio recording of Chanda calling Kambwili a dog and an HIV patient has since gone viral on social media.

Below is the recorded phone conversation:

Amos: Hello.

Kambwili: Iwe mwaice ulekwatako umuchinshi.

Amos: Iwe we mbwa ya muntu iwe Kambwili niwe ningakwatila umuchinshi? Nga walwala Sugar na nanikane, the doctors will tell you, iwe wakwata HIV/AIDS, tell the people. And it is not me who infected you. Ndekupela umuchinshi iwe wembwa iwe? (Can I have respect for a dog like you? you are suffering from HIV/AIDS, just tell the people. You want me to give respect to you a dog of a human being?)

Kambwili: Young man

Amos: Even your life, you are below that of a dog.

Kambwili: Young man…

Amos: Keep away from me, you have taken me to court, I have responded why can’t you wait? Those people you killed in order to steal metals, you can’t kill me. And this evidence I will put it before court, what is bothering you?

Kambwili: Ohoo?

Amos: Idiot! You have killed people in Chingola is it not true?

Kambwili: Ohoo?

Amos: Respond, not “ohoo”. Who is Deocious Kashimbaya? How did he die?

Kambwili: That is very good and that is what I wanted to record. Now I will take you on, I have recorded you.
