Allow Teachers to vote first – FODEP

The Ministry of Education should allow teachers who are currently on holidays to vote first before reporting for work on or before the 12th January, 2015 when the schools officially open.

This is will be cost effective and encourage most of them to exercise their right to vote.

It will be extremely expensive to most teachers to trek back to their various voting centres to participate in the 20th January 2015 vote barely a week after opening especially those serving in far flung areas of Zambezi, Chavuma, Kaputa, Shang’ombo etc but registered in other parts of the country such as Lusaka, Copperbelt and other towns.

FODEP’s interaction with most teachers currently on holiday in various parts of the country, most of them where the registered from as voters, but serving in the Ministry as teachers in various parts of the country reveal that most of them may not participate in the 20th January 2015 vote if the extension is not considered due to transport cost implications.

it must be recalled also that most of the teachers posted after 2011 elections, when the last voter registration was conducted, did not register in areas they are currently serving.

It is for this reason that FODEP is appealing to the Ministry of Education to consider extending the reporting period for the affected teachers to afford them time participate in the vote on 20th January, 2015.

  4. @Kambwali, We Have A Very Different Story Here You Bring Your Rabishness On Board. Is Gbm In Control Of Upnd Since He Is Part Of It? Does Endornsement Mean Apointed A Party President? You Are Very Dull. Has For FODEP, thats very much ok, It Will Be Good To Open Schools After Elections. If That Happens, Then You Should Also Encorage Those Voters Out Of Their Voting Place On School Holiday To Go Back Early And Vote. FODEP, These Are Issues Now. Not Aligations. You Are Thinking, We Need More People To Vote. Vote For EDGER LUNGU For President. Efintu.

  5. This is only true and does not affect teachers only…am in the ministry of agriculture and this is my situation too. serving in western and had traveled to my home on the copperbelt for the holidays. Now to think of getting to my duty station and back only to vote in now less than 15 days is way too costly. Am sure many others are in this situation.
