UPND general conference kicks off, HH to appoint VPs, NMC chairpersons

An elective General Assembly is being held by the main opposition, UPND today, reports Zambian Eye’s Asa Manda.


The event is taking place after the last one held 15 years ago which urshered the current leader Hakainde Hichilema (HH) to take over from founder Anderson Mazoka who had just died.


HH is going unchallenged where various members will compete for National Management Committee membership.


Each province will elect Seven members to constitute the NMC and the President will also nominate some members.


Thereafter the president, HH will appoint members to various specific portfolios, including Vice presidents, General Secretary, and Party Spokesperson.

It is reported that 37 UPND members in the province are vying for 7 national management committee positions available for southern province while UPND President Hakainde Hichilema is unopposed.
