After being disappointed by PF, Mulongoti goes to Nawakwi

People’s Party leader Mike Mulongoti is tomorrow expected to endorse opposition FDD presidential candidate Edith Nawakwi, sources have told Zambian Eye.

The announcement will be made at a media briefing scheduled for Wednesday at old Protea Hotel in Lusaka at 9:30 AM.

The briefing will be attended by Ms Nawakwi who is seen as a distant third in the August election.

In the previous elections Mulongoti has complained of not being “thanked” by the PF after endorsing and campaigning for the party.

In 2011 after he was expelled from MMD where he served as Minister and was positioning himself for the Vice presidency of the party, Mulongoti campaigned for Michael Sata. After Sata won the election, Mulongoti complained that he did not thank him.

In the Presidential by-election,  Mulongoti is alleged to have asked Hakainde Hichilema to promise him the Vice president position before he could endorse him but the UPND leader refused. Mulongoti and his colleague Nason Msoni endorsed the candidature of Edgar Lungu who also did not “thank” him after winning.

Recently when asked by Zambian Eye who he was backing in the August elections, Mulongoti said the country would be told at an appropriate time.
