African Champions, Zambia, Face Tricky Ethiopia, Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Burkina Faso at 2013 Nations Cup

The Chipolopolo Boys after scoring a wining goal to become Champions of Africa.

African champions, Zambia, will begin their defence of continental title on January 21, 2013 against Ethiopia – a side that is making a return to the finals of the biggest soccer show piece after a 31 year absence.

Ethiopia has defeated Zambia only twice in over seven meetings with the latest at a CECAFA tournament in two years ago.

According to the draws conducted on Wednesday night, Chipolopolo will face continental heavyweights and 1994 winners Nigeria on January 25 before concluding Group C games against Burkina Faso on January 29. Chipolopolo play all their games at Mbombela.

The colorful ceremony in Durban attended by the cream of African football, South African president Jacob Zuma and CAF president Issa Hayatou, the draw effectively gets the 16 teams’ preparations for the 29th Africa Cup of Nations underway.

Hosts South Africa open the tournament with a match against new comers Cape Verde on 19th January at Soccer City. The final will be on the 10th of February also at Soccer City.

Coach Herve Renard will apply a cautious approach and ensure Chipolopolo spring surprises as the case was at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in hoisting the first title
