ActionAid refutes reports of theft of donor funds

ActionAid Zambia has rubbished reports of embezzlement of millions of dollars in donor funds at the organisation.

In a statement, the antipoverty organisation described a report published on the Patriotic Front (PF) Facebook page alleging that an audit had uncovered widespread looting of funds at ActionAid Zambia as baseless, malicious and untrue.

“ActionAid Zambia has been made aware of a social media post containing wide-ranging allegations against the organisation, its past and present staff,” reads a statement released by ActionAid management.

“We would like to categorically inform our partners, supporters and allies that the allegations are baseless, malicious and untrue.

“We assure all our partners and supporters that ActionAid Zambia remains astute in its mission of achieving social justice, poverty eradication and gender equality, guided by its values, including integrity and transparency, among others.”

AtionAid is a global movement of people working together to further human rights and defeat poverty for all.

In Zambia, it is headed by Country Director and civil society activist, Nalucha Ziba, who took over from Pamela Chisanga.

ActionAid Zambia was established as a Country Programme in 1996 working through HODI and its partners in the Luano valley and Mumbwa districts in Central Province and Masaiti in the Copperbelt Province.

In 2008, ActionAid Zambia set up its own office and began implementing work in collaboration with its district level partners.

Currently ActionAid Zambia works in seven districts within Muchinga, Northern and Western Provinces.

ActionAid also partners with Centre for Trade Policy Development (CTPD), Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR), Caritas Mpika, Non Governmental Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) and Keepers Zambia Foundation (KZF).
