85 year old former president Mutharika leads in Malawi elections

Earliy results counted from Poling stations in Malawi show a wide lead for 85 year old Prof Peter Mutharika a former president.

For instance at Mangochi Polling station;
Peter Mutharika got 936 while incumbent president Lazarus Chakwera trailed with 77.

Neno South polling station, Prof Mutharika polled 1020 while President Chakwera managed 23.

Malawi Electoral Commission has held the first press briefing to explain the counting and announcing process and will announce the first batch of results this morning.

Malawi went to the polls yesterday where 17 candidates are running for the presidency including another former president Joyce Banda.

Prof Mutharika”s party is said to be doing well even at Parliamentary level.
