Five people have been apprehended in Rufunsa District after they were found with ZESCO wires worth over 600,000 Kwacha.
ZESCO Company Public Relations Manager Hazel Zulu says the suspects were intercepted as they were about to enter the main road with the truck carrying the wires stolen from Mpanshya Substation.
Zulu has told ZNBC News that the power utility firm has since recovered all the stolen wires.
She says the wires were part of the materials used in the construction of the Rufunsa-Luangwa transmission line.
Zulu said those apprehended include a hired security guard who was guarding Mpanshya Substation.
She says all the five suspects have since been handed over to the Police and will appear in court soon.
Zulu has since warned people against buying ZESCO wires, stating that they are encouraging theft and vandalism of public property.
She says the act is retrogressive as the company was on the verge of losing in excess of 6-hundred thousand Kwacha worth of conductors. znbc
