32 year old Zambian woman arrested in India for drug trafficking

A 32 year old Zambian woman was on Christmas day arrested in India for allegedly smuggling narcotics worth over Rs six crore at the Indira
Gandhi International (IGI) airport.

Emily Chilonga Chibuye was intercepted near the check-in counter of the departure hall and after interrogations it was discovered that she
had Ephedrine Pseudoephedrine, a controlled substance under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The woman was intercepted at 12.40 am at Terminal 3 by the intelligence wing of the CISF was detained. Her travel documents revealed that she was traveling to Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

The intelligence wing reveled that they became suspicious of the woman after noticing her uneasiness when she got to the airport and based on
the profiling, before she was selected for a thorough checking.
“On screening and physical checking her baggage, 35 kg of Methylenadroxhlyle, Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine drugs were recovered in powder form concealed in her clothes,” a CISF officer said.

She was later handed over to Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The woman was on a tourist visa to India.

According to officials, Emily had come from Addis Ababa on tourist visa. She claimed to work as a beautician in that country. Emily also told the interrogators that she was to hand over the stock to her Indian associate here, officials said. Search is on to trace her accomplice, they added.
