Chipolopolo in room 1The Zambia National Team had not left the country by 5pm on Tuesday for Cape Verde ahead of a game scheduled for Wednesday evening, reports Zambian Eye Correspondent.

The team popularly known as Chipolopolo Boys were still in Ndola by press time. The team was scheduled to have left on Sunday, September 7 at 6pm but was later changed to Monday, September 8 at 6am then to 2pm.

It is not clear why there has been all these changes and why the team is still in the country 24 hours before a crucial game.

The team atleast needed to have spent two days training in that country before the game on Wednesday.

But sources say the owners of the chartered plane have allegedly asked for a full K400, 000 guarantee of payment for the Zambia National soccer team’s trip to Cape Verde.

FAZ has not said anything and there is no update even on its facebook page about the team.

Government says clearing of the chartered plane in Cape Verde had caused the delay. Sports Deputy Minister Christopher Mulenga who is accompanying the team said government was shouldering the blame and promised that this will not happen in future.

He said the chatered plane was expected to arrive in Ndola at 7:45pm to pick the team then depart for Cape Verde which is an eight-hour-journey.

Zambia plays Cape Verde in the second leg of AFCON 2015 qualifier. The Chipolopolo goes into this game with pressure after being held to a draw by the little known Mozambique at home on Saturday.
