2015 has been full of turbulence for Zambia – Government

Government has described the ending year 2015 as one full of turbulences for Zambia more especially in the mining and energy sectors.

Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili tells QFM News via telephone that the turbulences were as a result of the change in the weather pattern and low copper prices on the international market.

Mr. Kambwili says the power outages and low copper prices have had a negative impact on the mining sector resulting in the downsizing of manpower by certain mining firms.

He says the challenges in the two sectors also contributed to the depreciation of the kwacha against major foreign currencies.

He further states that 2015 was preceded with the situation where the global economies faced challenges as a result of China slowing down its operations, adding that Zambia was not spared from these challenges.

Mr. Kambwili has however, stated that government is resolved in dealing with the economic challenges the country is facing going into the New Year.

The Chief Government Spokesperson has also noted a number of achievements the PF government attained in the year 2015 among them the passing of the constitution amendment bill as promised to the people of Zambia.
