2 Zambian SA storm victims laid to rest

The Zambian victims of the Durban storms in South Africa have been laid to rest.

Two Zambian children who died in the storms which has claimed more than 70 lives were laid to rest in Crompton, Durban of South Africa. The duo were tragically killed following a rain storm that affected the area.

The emotional funeral service of Brian and Emmanuel Phiri was attended by the duo’s school mates who sung in honour of the two departed brothers.

The victims’ parents Mesiya and Cynthia Phiri are said to be devastated after the demise of their 6 and 9-year-old sons.

And according to the information made available to the media, the Zambia High Commission in Pretoria South Africa said the children died during the storm when the roof of the house collapsed on them while sleeping in the bedroom with their parents.

The father sustained heavy injuries and was rushed to the hospital by his neighbours whist the children died on the spot.

The death toll following severe localised flooding and heavy rains in KwaZulu-Natal has claimed over 70 lives, officials have said.

MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nomusa Dube-Ncube said that eThekwini Metro, Ugu and King Cetshwayo District were the most affected.
