2020/21 voter’s cards still valid- ECZ boss

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chief Executive Officer Brown Kasaro says voter’s cards that were obtained in 2020 for the 2021 general elections are still valid for the 2026 general elections.

Apparently, he advises voters with defaced or damaged voter’s cards to visit registration centres for replacement.

He adds that a police report is only needed if the card is lost.

The country recently launched a nationwide voter registration campaign in preparation for the general elections scheduled for August 2026.

According to ECZ the ongoing exercise is expected to register nearly four million eligible voters across the country.

The initiative comes as the nation of about 23 million people gears up for what is likely to be a closely watched poll.

The registration process is being conducted in phases, with electoral officials encouraging citizens who have reached voting age or changed their place of residence to register early.

ECZ is on record urging political parties and civil society groups to support the process and ensure that it remains peaceful, credible and transparent.
