1 DIES, 39 injured in the Chibombo accident

One person has died while 38 others are nursing injuries after an LG Bus enroute to Zambezi District from Lusaka lost control on the Great North Road in Chibombo.

The accident occurred today, 14th December, 2023 around 05:00 hours,200 meters North of Chibombo trading area along the Great North Road in Chibombo District.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has confirmed that 38 people who were injured have been rushed to Liteta Hospital for treatment and the body of the deceased has since been deposited at Liteta hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.

He says involved was Waxson Desani aged 41 of House number 3426 Chimwemwe Kitwe, who was driving a Zhongtong Bus with registration number BCB 3964 a property of L.G Travellers from South to North with 61 passengers on board.

Hamoonga says accident happened when the driver lost control of the motor vehicle due to excessive speed and overturned on the Western side of the road”, Hamoonga further reveals.

“The driver complained of chest pains. Due to the impact, one unidentified female adult died on spot after sustaining fatal head injuries”, Hamoonga said.

Meanwhile, the following passengers only sustained injuries:

1. 29 year old Jane lungu of Mufumbwe complained of chest pains and painful left hand,

2. Esnart Daka aged 29 of Lusaka west complains of General body pains,

3. 43 year old Milanda Mulalike of Mufumbwe complains of general body pains,

4. Terrence Chipoya aged 40 of Lusaka, sustained a cut on the head,

5. Patrick Fundulu aged 27 of Manyinga in North-Western complained of general body pains,

6. Jackson Namakando aged 27 of Manyinga in North-Western sustained a cut on the left side upper eye,

7. M/Chiluba Shaloba aged 30 of Manyinga sustained a fractured left hand,

8. Kelvin Kangala aged 31 sustained swollen fore head,

9. Noah Matoka aged 28 of Manyinga sustained bruised fore head,

10. Mercy Makasa aged 37 of Kabombo complained of General body pains,

11. Male Juvenile of Kabombo sustained a cut on the head

12. Ostern Kalango aged 57 of Kabompo sustained a cut on the head, 13.Simeon Kapandi aged 64 of Lusaka sustained a cut on the head,

14. F/Shiba Sakala aged 67of Kitwe sustained fractured left hand,

15. F/Esnart Gondwe aged 40 of Kitwe sustained fractured left leg,

16. F/Mary chilapo aged 54 of Maninga complained of general body pains

17. F/Masida Salwenyeka aged 37 of kabombo complained of general body pains,

18. F/Jessy Palata aged 21 Manyinga complained of general body pain,

19. F/Loyce Samalesi aged 52 of Manyinga complained of general body pains,

20. Esther Ndopi aged 22 of Manyinga complained of chest pains,

21. Caleb Chikonde aged 22 of Mayinga complained of general body pains,

22. M/Kapenda Palani aged 38 of Lusaka complained of general body pains,

23. F/ Joyce Kasanga aged 21 of Kabompo complained of general body pains,

24.A male Juvenile aged 17 of Lusaka complained of painful right arm,

29.M/Patson Zulu aged 28 of Livingstone complained of painful left hand,

30.M/juvenile Nathan Zulu aged 14 of Livingstone complained of painful left shoulder,

31.M/Hudson Ndenji aged 33 of Manyinga complained of chest pains,

32.M/Justin Mazadu aged 20 of Chavuma, sustained a cut on the forehead,

33.M/Given Fungula aged 28 of Manyinga complained of painful neck,

34. Gift Chingenge aged 25 of Lusaka complained of general body pains,

35. F/Muzala Chingangu aged 19 of Mufumbwe complained of general body pains,

36. M/Julius Ndonga aged 20 of kabombo complained of chest pains,

37. M/Fortune Chipwaya aged 19 of Solwezi sustained a cut on the right ear,

38. M/Chinyama Samakai aged 24 of Chavuma sustained cuts on the right hand.

“The driver and the 38 injured passengers have been admitted to Liteta hospital”, Hamoonga adds.
