0pen Letter to the Zambian populous

As clergymen, we stand at a moment of great challenge and opportunity to lead this nation out of long political darkness. As a church we cannot afford watching our nation busily gathering material for its funeral when actually we are the salt of the earth that should bring preservation, purity and truth to the people.

During the bible days, salt was very crucial or important. People didn’t have freezers to preserve meat and other food staffs, they used salt.It was highly valued due to its many needed usages however, when the salt had lost its ability to preserve, it had to be tossed out because it was good for nothing.

Due largely to ineffective leadership and regime our people have been forced to bear the burden of economical failure leaving them with no little hope in their daily lives. The country is currently moving in reverse and our leaders have nothing to offer the people except more suffering.Our families are living with health care systems where they should buy medicine for themselves to be taken after meals which they do not have, our schools fail to provide relevant education for our children and the government fail to provide gainful employments for the youths instead they continue losing even their small jobs everyday even though the retirement system is not able to pay.

The current situation demands from the church more than just expressing sympathy but to lead the change for the common good. It’s not true that our leaders lack solution to the many problems the Zambian people are facing but they cannot see the problem because they are a problem themselves who refuse to think. Theyhave failed to keep pace with the demands of the twenty first century. As you might be aware that it takes more than commitment or desire to bring about result, this requires open mindedness and skillful timing. We should not lose sight of the fact that the tragedy we find ourselves in as a country is leadership discrepancy. The economy of this country will only recover through hard working leaders who will be able to oversee the advantages over disadvantages and not only through prayers. There is no secret involved or hidden formula responsible for success in other country, their success lie in the hands of the leaders they choose to represent them.

All across the nation a chorus of voice is swelling in a demand for change which will create a new kind of politics that will connects people with their government and offer not just a vote at the ballot box but also a voice that cannot be ignored. Our people have lost confidence in the operation of their country and it’s not too much for them to ask for leaders who will constantly keep new sight and who have a balance of judgment on possible solutions to the problems that are faced by the country including the church. Our people have a choice to make but it is the duty and responsibility of the church to warn them of the consequences of making wrong choices so that the church do not share a blame when the nation finds itself in a similar situation like that of Uganda and Zimbabwe as the signs clearly show

O God, father of all people of the earth, look with favor on us and hear the prayer we make for our country. Bless all of us with father`s blessings as you blessed Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, bless all the races and tribes of our country as you blessed the twelve tribes of Israel. Deliver us from evil as you delivered the Israelite in the desert from their enemies. Heal our misunderstanding and teach us to love one another. Give wisdom to our people to make informed decision which will help heal our nation from the wounds it has sustained. In the name of our load Jesus Christ we pray
