The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) today held a press briefing today at their offices, led by Diana Sichone the commission provided an overview of Zambiaโ€™s capital market performance for the third quarter of 2025.

The presentation highlighted continued resilience and steady progress supported by macroeconomic stability and growing investor confidence.

Inflation eased to 12.3% in September 2025, while the exchange rate remained stable at around K23.87 per USD, prompting the Bank of Zambia to maintain its policy rate.

The Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) posted robust gains in Q3 2025. The LuSE All Share Index (LASI) rose 24.87% to 25,242.39 points, driven by strong performances from ZCCM-IH (+60%), Airtel Zambia (+45%), and Zambia Sugar (+41%).

Market capitalization grew 10% to K327 billion, equivalent to 58.6% of GDP, or 24.5% excluding Shoprite. Total investors on the exchange reached 75,249, underscoring rising participation and positive investor sentiment.

The Collective Investment Schemes segment maintained its upward trajectory, with Assets Under Management (AUM) increasing 7.49% to K3.5 billion.

Local investments accounted for 85.6% of total AUM, while investor numbers expanded to 1.21 million, up 11% from the previous quarter.

Growth was largely driven by mobile-enabled investment platforms (USSD), enhancing retail participation and market accessibility.

In the secondary government bond market, trading activity increased 16% to 1,960 trades, though nominal value traded declined 7% to K20.03 billion and market value dropped 10% to K20.41 billion. Liquidity remained stable with a turnover ratio of 11%, consistent with previous quarters.
