HH addressing supporters

UPND President, Hakainde Hichilema, says his party will reduce the number of taxes once voted into power.

Speaking in Lilayi over the weekend when he welcomed 300 defectors from the PF and FDD, Hichilema said Zambians were suffering as a result of the too many taxes introduced by the PF.

The PF was voted into office in 2011 on platform to lower taxes, create more jobs and put money into people’s pockets. The PF has not implemented this campaign promise instead it has introduced a number of taxes which according to Hichilema takes away 80 percent of one’s income.

“The PF is getting over 80% of peoples incomes through heavy taxation. The money they get from these taxes is being mismanaged through corruption and the buying of price inflated items like fire tenders”, Hichilema said.

He said its important for Zambians to acknowledge that all the problems they are currently facing are as a direct result of poor management of the ruling Patriotic Front.

He emphasized that the only viable alternative party that had the capacity to resuscitate the Zambian economy was the UPND.

He welcomed the new members to the UPND and urged them not to be afraid to exercise their freedom of association and expression.

He advised the old members to assimilate the new members into the structures. He also emphasised the point that new members should be received at grass root level and not secretariat.

“Receiving defectors from now onwards should happen at grass root level. No more receiving defectors at the secretariat. This is the only way we shall know that, unlike the PF, we are receiving genuine defectors. Just tell us where the defections will be and we shall come there to receive our new members”, said Hichilema.

  1. ONLY A TONGA MUST LEAD UPND Says Sejani. HH you are not an alternative to the national governance of this country. You are a pure tribalist, a white color thief (Privatization) a sell-out of the foreign agents, a bitter person and you carry tribal hatred. Worse still when you lose in 2021 you are likely not to accept defeat and you intend to set this country on fire, we don’t want you, continue to be the president only for TONGAS not for Zambia. The problem you have is you don’t appreciate the works delivered by PF such as good roads, airports, schools, hospitals. You sound like nothing has happened ever since PF took over power, this is unzambian. You are so desperate to go to the state house at all costs even against the wish of the people. This desperation is worrying everyone. HH A TICKING TIME BOMB TO ZAMBIA’S PEACE AND SECURITY.

  3. It is all nice to promise things when one is outside Government. What they do not know is the intricacies of running a government. As for Sata (mhsrip), there was no excuse for promising lower taxes and more money in peoples’ pockets because before becoming president he had served under two different regimes, for long periods, both as law maker and executive member. So he must have known what it means to run a government. HH has never been in Government, so we may excuse him. But, he should find a way of getting to know exactly what prompts government to resort to excessive taxation of citizens so that he should be making measured promises. Taxes world over are detasted by tax payers, but at the same time, they demand for more and improved services and development. Balancing the equation of taxes and service/development is always a challenge everywhere in the world.

    • @ M.M. my take from your comment stops at…”Balancing the equation of taxes and service/development is always a challenge”… and you can only make a concerted effort at addressing the challenge once you are accorded opportunity to run government where all data access is available at your beck and call! However solutions could elude one depending on conscience that led them seek governance office!
