TRADITIONAL leaders from across 9 districts in Northern province have said they only know of one elected leader in the person of His Excellency, Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia.
Their Royal Highnesses were speaking during a meeting with the Head of State last evening at the Kasama State Lodge in Northern province. The traditional leaders reaffirmed their support for the Patriotic Front (PF) led government and President Lungu.
In a joint statement read on their behalf by His Royal Highness, chief Kaputa of Kaputa district, the traditional leaders stated that they remained hopeful in President Lungu’s leadership and commitment to deliver development to the region by giving priority to the road network and infrastructure development in order to easy the transportation of goods and services and to uplift the living standards of the chiefdoms respectively.
“Your Excellency, as traditional leaders here in Northern province, we must put on record that we only know of one President here in Zambia and that is you Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu. We remain hopeful in your leadership to bring development to this region with priority being the road networks, infrastructure development including a technological Institute before 2021 and an improved distribution of farming inputs for our farmers in the region,” said Chief Kaputa.
Responding to their Royal Highnesses, President Edgar Lungu praised the traditional leaders for their undivided support. The Head of State appealed to the traditional leaders to open up their land for investment stating that government has found it very difficult to access land for development in some Chiefdoms.
“Tulelomba ukweba ati mwingatwafwa. Government has had difficulties accessing land in the Chiefdoms for investment in agriculture and other developmental projects. Muletupokelela ngatwaisa naba Investor in order for us to development the region and uplift the living standards of our people,” said the President.
“It was the desire of President Sata to open up the entire road network in Zambia for easy transportation of goods and services. That is why he introduced the link Zambia 8000 project. I have instructed the Ministers for Health and Infrastructure development to complete the projects which have been shelved in the region and I only ask ukweba ati mwibika ama deadline amuti tufwile ukupwishi before 2021 or else. For us, developing the Northern region is ongoing, we have a lot to deliver and I would be lying to attach a deadline to that,” stated the Head of State.
22 traditional leaders in the Northern region including Snr Chief Mwamba, Chiefs Munkonge and Nkole Mfumu of Kasama district, Chiefs Mumporokoso, Mukupa Kaoma, Chitoshi and Shibwalya Kapila of Mporokoso district attended the meeting. Chiefs Chiwanangala and Matipa attended from Chilubi district while Chiefs Chinakila and Chitimbwa came from Mpulungu.
Also in attendance was Snr. Chieftainess Chungu, Snr. Chief Shi Mumbi and Chiefs Chipalo, Chabula and Katuta from Luwingu district. Snr. Chief Nsama attended the meeting from Nsama district.
Chiefs Makasa and Chimbala from Mungwi district and Chiefs Mpande and Mwamba from Mbala district were also in attendance.
