Former Minister under MMD government Mike Mulongoti has said that the democratic system in Zambia is so porous that even people who don’t qualify asscend to the presidency.

Mulongoti says so far Zambia has had three presidents who sneaked through to the presidency saying if there was a strict screen process the three could not have made it to the presidency.

He did not mention the names of the three. Zambia has had six presidents.

Mulongoti narrated that one of the candidates did not even properly complete his filing in of nomination papers but still ended up being republican president.

He said there is need to strict screen the people aspiring to be president.

Mulongoti said Edgar Lungu was not even subjected to a debate to explain to the country how he was to govern. He said despite him having said that he had no vision for the country he ended up being president.

He said President Lungu is not addressing the nation through a press conference so he could be questioned.

Mulongoti who is People’s Party president said the country was now in a mess because the PF has no capacity to govern.

He was speaking when h featured on Let the People Talk programme on Radio Phoenix on Friday.

  1. Mulongoti you were advised not to support Lungu it is you people who were in for front campaigning for Jemason together with Mpombo . Now you are against what you voted for . It is shameful for you to be loud mouthed . We ask you to first apologise to the people of Zambia for what you did

  4. What are the qualifications to the office of the President? If Mulongoti has the qualifications, let him tell us. These are political failures who think by holding press briefings even when you don’t have anything tangible to say, one has that right. Mulongoti, am sure, does not spend from his pocket when he opens his mouth to at least say something. Even if the elections are held next month, Mulongoti would trail like break lights on a car.

  5. Mulongoti must not play with our minds. Politicians are not good pipo.
Look at what is happening in PF today. The PF has gone to the worst under Edgar Lungu. The way our economy is today is very dangerous. Edgar must try to engage technocrats to come out help him with issue of the kwacha. Michael Sata had a vision for Zambia but from the time Sata died may his soul rest in eternal peace Zambia has gone to the Dogs. I do remember in 1992 and 1994 we had a more worse drought than this one but there was no road shedding . PF must be hiding something from Zambians.

  6. Iwe Mpundu if you truly had respect for Sata as you have written then you should know that ECL isjust carrying on what Sata started you cannot separate the two. Didn’t ba Chikwanda serve under Sata?.You are just showing us your hatred for ECL. Hatred blinds you only see things from one perspective ,the UPND WAY!

  7. Mulongoti is right. Concerning the economy I can defend Lungu. He inherited the failing economy from late Chimbwi No Plan. It is tulu.
Three presidents who just found themselves on top who did not qualify and could not perform were Nyama Soya sangwapo, late Chimbwi No Plan and Jemason New sangwapo.
Lungu is just a caretaker. Things were spoiled a long time ago by the first pf administration.

  8. i totally agree with Mulongoti despite his earlier support of PF candidate, we have had leaders who were not supposed to be. I don’t blame those leaders but voters meaning as Zambians. We choose leaders based on what we think is the best criterion. Look at the presidents that we have had maybe with the exception of the first republican president, who deserved to be the president ??? Your answer will depend on zambian way of choosing the best among the rest. Honestly we need to go back to our Zambian values and morals otherwise we will continue in this mess. We need selfless leaders, focused, principled, visionary, self-motivated, team leaders, sober minded,…. Not those leaders who think are the most intelligent people in Zambia with every solution to every problem…. But a listening person who believes that solutions lie in ordinary Zambians with Christian core values

    • @Kayasa, you are right people think that voting in an apposition president would end the current problems the country is going through. How is the new government going to tackle these issues. That is what we electorates want to know. Not how the presidency was acquired and so on.

  10. Let us vote for Hakainde Hichilema who has what it takes to be Zambia’s President. He has prepared enough for the position. He has the vision to reduce poverty and make Zambia a productive exporting country. He has morals and even the people around him are good to give us what we have been missing in terms of economic, social and political growth of the nation. This once let all Zambians support our ready to lead son of our soil, HH. For sure even a dog that survived mass killings that saw a number of street dogs loose their lives knows that Edgar Lungu has increased poverty levels. Edgar Lungu na bena Kambwili kuti baleta development?

  11. Mainza, are you sure that HH means well for this country and that he is surrounded by good people? To start with HH stole from the privatisation of our country’s resources and you say he means well. If HH is rich as he claims to be what has he done to help the poor people even in his own province southern province. Rich people like Dangote from Nigeria are heavily investing while the likes of HH can only boast and continue cheating himself that he is the only wise person in the country. Are you sure that HH is surrounded by good people , the likes of William banda, GBM and many more, the answer is NO. Come 2016 me and my family will make HH to go past(Azapitilila anso) state house again and find himself in Bauleni compound for the Fifth time.
