The opposition UPND says it is not part of the Patriotic Front (PF) – ZCID Inter-party dialogue taking place in Lusaka.

In a press release below, the UPND also says the resolution of this dialogue will not be binding and will not go through in Parliament.

UPND Press Statement on National Dialogue.

We wish to inform the nation that the UPND is not participating in the national dialogue summit taking place in Lusaka today.
This national dialogue has been organised by the Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID). This dialogue process has been organised in bad faith as it is being pushed by the PF government in order to circumvent the Commonwealth dialogue talks in Zambia.
The UPND believes that the ZCID has no capacity to lead the dialogue process in Zambia and would not like to be used to legitimise President Edgar Lungu’s agenda of manipulating the constitution, electoral system and politics in this country. What soft spot has the PF government seen in the ZCID for it to insist on using it?
We would like to warn the PF government that if it insists to go ahead and hold the dialogue talks using the ZCID, its outcomes will not be binding on the UPND and its resolutions will not see the light of day in Parliament. The PF government should remember that they do not have two-thirds majority in Parliament to bulldoze its way.
If the PF and its government are seriously opposed to the commonwealth dialogue talks in Zambia, we propose that as a compromise, the Church Mother Bodies should lead the dialogue process in Zambia. The Church has a record of facilitating dialogue and resolving conflicts in Zambia. UPND will be comfortable to dialogue under the auspices of the Church Mother Bodies who are neutral and guided by the will of God.

  1. Well, if what Hon. Lubinda is said to have said is true, the Government will accept whoever the conference chooses to lead the dialogue process. I think this is positive and needs support. I thought I heard the Secretary General of UPND saying his party was not attending this conference because it was not invited. I did not believe he was saying the truth; how come so many other parties were represented, did they just go without being invited? Now the truth has come out, through this statement, as to why UPND is not attending, and not because it was not invited. We as citizens are owed the truth about what is happening because we are stakeholders. Anything going wrong, leading into chaos, will affect all of us. Who wants that?

  2. UPND should quickly sober up.They very well know that PF is in the driving seat and as usual, the driver is the only one who can swerve a vehicle not to go into a ditch or indeed go into a ditch. The difference between the seats PF has in Parliament and the TWO Thirds majority required to amend the Constitution is very much tenable because not all UPND MPS ARE AS UNREASONABLE AS THE TOP BRASS of the Party.Remember some of them are more educated and cultured than a number of those holding high offices in the Party. If the ZCID led dialogue comes up with progressive provisions,it will be suicidal for UPND MPs to oppose for the sake of it.Zambia will be there even if UPND likes it or not.

  3. There is no dispute between these one man parties now making noise ( the likes of tayali sakala and the rest) and pf. So what are they discussing ? These parties are surrogate babies of pf so if UPND attended it was going to be pf and these one man parties one hand against UPND on the other hand. The dispute is between pf and UPND , These one man parties do not see anything wrong with pf regime, What do they have to offer now if they never raised issues before?.Even Muliyokela is attending what a joke. ZCID is a joke , can they handle serious national matters with this mediocrity they showing us. Let serious organisations like the church and or the Common Wealth deal with this matter.

  4. Since UPND does not want to show willingness to talk then what do we expect from them?? REMEMBER RED LIGHT? Very dangerous. You will be accountable for any deaths occurring around if no talk.
