Stop accusing judges of corruption, LAZ tells HH

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has chastised UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema for accusing some Constitutional Court Judges of corruption.

During a press briefing at his residence in Lusaka yesterday, Hichilema accused Constitutional Court judges Anne Mwewa Sitali,  Palan Musonda and Mungeni Mulenga of being corrupt.

But in a statement issued today, LAZ president Linda Kasonde says the association condemns the making of unsubstantiated corruption allegations against judges and other judicial officers, saying this has the potential to create anarchy.

“The Law Association of Zambia is gravely concerned at very serious allegations that have been leveled against members of the Judiciary by United Party for National Development president Mr Hakainde Hichilema. In particular, LAZ is concerned about allegations of corruption on the following judges of the Constitutional Court: Judge Anne Mwewa Sitali, Judge Palan Musonda and Judge Mungeni Mulenga. LAZ strongly condemns the making of any unsubstantiated claims, particularly of corruption, against any member of the judiciary,” Kasonde stated.

She advised members of the public with evidence of corruption against any judicial officer or public servant to lodge a complaint with the relevant authorities, such as the Judicial Complaints Commission.

“As LAZ has advised on several occasions, any member of the public with evidence of corruption against any judicial officer or public servant should lodge a complaint with the relevant authorities, such as the Judicial Complaints Commission, together with substantiated evidence.

“LAZ, like any concerned member of the public is interested in the preservation of the Judiciary as an institution that is mandated to uphold the rule of law, justice and integrity in the nation. Judicial officers by virtue of their positions cannot publicly defend themselves. We therefore implore the UPND and the public in general to desist from making allegations against Judicial officers without caution, due care and consideration as careless and substantiated allegations have the potential of creating anarchy and eroding public confidence in this institution.”

  1. Mrs Kasonde may the Good Old Lord shower you with His mercies as I briefly want to question your chasterilisation of HH when he named the Concourt judges he thinks are corrupt.

    1) Are these not the judges who made u-turn on a Monday to discontinue the haring of petition without proper interpretation of the 14 day constitution law provision? The same trio, the previous Friday before their despicable decision, had agreed to proceed with the hearing. What could have lead to the different interpretation of the 14 days issues over the weekend, if it is not the black envelopes they received.

    2) Isn’t the same bread bunch that have allowed Prof Luo and Mrs Mwanakatwe to continue occupying the seats in parliament despite having lost the petition and against the law s of Zambia that thecould not appeal the high court decisions?

    3) Isn’t the same bread bunch that has allowed the same ministers not to pay back the money which they were ordered to reimburse government when Edgar illegally allowed them to continue serving as ministers against the constitution of the country?

    4) Isn’t the the same bread bunch that has caused the country to divided into tribal dichotomy. Bembas anand Ngonis enjoying the ill gotten wealth of the country against the Lozis, Tongas, Luvales, Lundas, Kakondes,Lenjes , Ilas, Solis, Bundas, Chokwes, etc?

What in the world are the bread bunches doing on a daily basis when they can’t even hold Lungu to account for having transgressed the constitution by not handing power to the speaker(that Zimbabwean migrant Matibini), when the UPND lodged the petition?

  2. Sounds good but…

Only God knows what is hidden in our hearts. People can pretend but time will tell among those who stood for integrity during and after 2016 elections. The good thing is that God cannot be deceived.

  5. LAZ and Yali are dishonest and Naive.ECZ and Concourt stole HH’s Election Victory. Concourt under the direction of ECL erroneously and illegally dismissed the Petition on a Time Technicalities.HH will not get Justice from both Concourt and JCC becoz they are both controlled by ECL. The hearing against the 3 Judges was held by JCC months ago and the outcome will not be revealed. ECL will not allow JCC to prounce a Judgment adverse to him and the 3 Judges. So HH will Never get Justice from Concourt and JCC as long as ECL is in charge.

  6. At the press briefing, HH did not just make wild allegations on corruption of the named judges, he told the nation why they are corrupt. Unless Kasonde can explain to us & justify that those acts by the judges are actually above board & hence cannot be construed to be corruption, then and only then can we see any sense in what she is saying here. As it stands, this is a hollow statement not befitting her status.
