Opposition PeP leader Sean Tembo has told newly appointed Minister of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe to redo the 2018 budget saying it is a disaster.

Mwanakatwe took over from Felix Mutati who was demoted and moved to Works and Supply Ministry in a reshuffle President Lungu made on Wednesday. Mutati who is an Accountant by profession and heads a faction of the MMD according to insiders in PF has failed to improve the economy.

Mwanakatwe who rose through the ranks to the top in the banking sector to head Barclays Bank and United Bank of Africa is seen as one who could turn things round and prevent the economy from collapsing.

She becomes the second woman after Edith Nawakwi to serve as Finance Minister. Her Parliamentary seat the Lusaka Central which she won in 2016 to become the first indigenous Zambian to hold the seat was nullified by the High Court although she is challenging the verdict in the Constitutional Court.

  1. Respect Parliament for approving the budget iwe muntu. We need to implement the budget now other than changing blindly. Just be ready to do more work in line with the budget.
