Political party dictators and their dull followers

In most of my posts I have alluded that you can not say you stand for democracy when you don’t believe in it’s values. Democracy should start from our political parties. Freedom of expression should start from our political organisations. Just like all political parties, periodic elections should start from our so called opposition parties. If this is not done then we are just dictators who hide in the name of being in an opposition party.
I have said many times that the problem or mistake we make is to think that opposition parties and their leaders are immune to criticism. For me they are not. They are part of our democratic and political sympathies hence they too should practice or live by democratic ways. We have dictators in the world because most of them use opposition or political parties as breeding grounds of being such.
The United Party for National Development(UPND) and the Forum for Democracy and Development(FDD) as examples have not gone for elective convention in over 10 years now. The question is why? My assumption is that their leaders are either dictators or their followers are just dull and brainwashed to the born or both. If you support these parties you should shut up and don’t lecture us about democracy which your party does not believe in.
UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema aka HH has failed to win five elections in the past decade. Surely how do you still keep a person like this as your president and further more not challenge him for the party leadership. It is either he has the party by the balls or you are afraid of him.
People are afraid of being suspended or expelled if they bring out any issue of going for a convention. I understand that people like Canisius Banda among others have been trying to push for a convention to elect new leaders who will be able to challenge the Patriotic Front(PF) in 2021. As we all heard and read in the news the Pilgrim has been suspended. Suspended for speaking out. Suspended for standing out for democracy and freedom of expression.
HH and UPND are ungrateful people. Pilgrim helped to amass a good number of votes from Eastern Province more than his fellow party vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba(GBM) in the Northern part of Zambia where he claimed he was more popular than President Edgar Lungu. If you followed the results the gap between those of President Lungu and HH was not so big in some constituencies in the East. All this is partly because of Pilgrim. His journeys were not in vain. And today he is suspended because he says lets go for a convention. OH! My dear Pilgrim…
HH is afraid of being challenged in my opinion. However I still think HH can win at the convention provided GBM does not stand. LOL. There you go. GBM is the real threat to HH than CB. And in this he is just waiting for the right time to strike or onslaught. But he has to do it fast before he too is suspended. Anyway the GBM rise to the UPND presidency is a story for another day. It is coming soon though.
The real question is how are people in UPND allowing this sort of thing to go on. If you say UPND is HH’s personal party then I feel it (UPND) should not even take part in our elections. You can’t run a political organisation like a shop, farm neither can you behave like a shimaBucher(Butcher) the boyfriend to Namusonda.
Democracy should start with your organisation ba UPND. Democracy should start with you FDD. Go for conventions if you have to gain respect. If you belong to these political parties push for one. If you are suspended or expelled you will be remembered for standing up for democracy and sound politics. Don’t be remembered for belonging to a party that does not practice intra-party democracy. Don’t be remembered for supporting a losing party. In this case I will say you can’t be young and belong or support a losing party because of it’s undemocratic tendencies . This will contribute in reducing your self confidence and political self-esteem.
We can not say we are future leaders if our role models are dictators. We can not say we are going to build that One Zambia One Nation if people we support are party dictators. In short we can’t have Political Party Dictators and be Dull Followers. It doesn’t add up.

    • You must have a very short memory. PF had a convention in 2014 – just before the 2015 byelection.

  6. this country is fast becoming a failed state without the rule of law becuase people do not know the diffrence between right and wrong.may i take this oportunity to explain the political ground currently taking place in this great nation.calling HH a dictator is wrongly placed and it is true such a writer does not know either understand what is happening in this nation.UPND can or will hold a convention without fearing anything. their constitution allows HH to be president of the party until after he becomes president of the nation for two terms. so calling for HH to handover power of the party at this time is not been done in good faith.the problem is with people who cannot see the PF-Party abrogated the constitution and stole the election. even those calling upon HH to conceded defeat are doing so due to blind loyaty. if a person wins wihout corruption every normal person must accept and concede defeat.even if you are blind or filled with hatred against HH didn’t you see state sponsored violence? didn’t you see chavula in the ECZ server room? do you know of chitulika constituecy with 33000 votes. did n’t you see how the concourt raped the constitution and closed the petition without hearing anything.why did the chief justice refuse to swear in the winning president elect if nothing is wrong

  7. Joe its more likely in your own house there is no democracy, why not go for a house convention?, you see, the undoing about you Joe is that, you cannot see beyond your nose, and unfortunate, you only dream about UPND. You and Frank Bwalya, when did you become the spokesperson for UPND to suggest anything about the party ? You honestly think all who support UPND are lesser wiser than you’re not to think your way ? Talk something else comrade, you’re too blind to reality, should go for brain surgery.

  8. Leave the god given party alone. Hh won the last election and thats the truth. There is one thing i have leant about the zambian politics, right now the majority of people criticising Hh are bembas. Why? To them the next president must be a bemba no matter what. People from the East have always taken a low profile on tribal comments. They are very clever and they know to say in an event of a secession they would choose to be with tongas than bembas for material safety. Just check the list of people of late with tribal comments about mainly tongas. The bembas don’t know one thing about easterners. An easterner will mbuyalise a bemba Inside but still call him a thief outside.

  9. At the moment it is irrelevant whether this party or that is democratic or not WHAT WE WANT TO KNOW IS DID LUNGU OR HH WIN THE AUGUST 11 ELECTIONS? JUST LET THE PETITION BE HEARD, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

Once this issue is solved the rest will fall in place. Individuals, organizations always go through transformations and development that is part of life. No one of us was born the way we are today we have all come through a process of change and developments in all areas of our life.

How can you have same people managing the country through and through? The luos, kapatas, siliyas, mutatis, kalimas just to mention a few. Are they the only learned people we have in this country come on. Are they the only ones who want money Mr forged presdent. We are many in this country you can change and bring in new blood . you can do better with new blood allow others to make money too.

  11. This is a PhD candidate some Germany university is going to unleash on us! God help us. The guy can conceptualize two things, one, did his party the PF have a convention between when Sata formed PF until he died in 2014 and what kind of convention did they have that elected Lungu and gas there been one since Lungu was elected? Two, how has HH been performing electorally from the tine he became leader to now nationally, has his pwrcentages been declining or climbing and instead it rigging that has worked against him rather than his own personal faults? Thus time around HH won but he was robbed. This half baked useless PhD candidate can’t even talk about that. As an academic, one is supposed to analyse internal as well as external dynamics of a given phenomenon. This dull PhD candidate PF cadre doesn’t even possess the academic tools of analysis and these are the advisors to dull Lungu! No wonder this country is fucked up.
