Five PF-allingned opposition political party leaders and two Civil Society Organisations have petitioned the Speaker of the National Assembly, Patrick Matibini to dismiss the Impeachment motion filed by the United Party for National Development (UPND).

The five are Wright Musoma of the Zambia Republican Party, Peter Chanda of New Congress Party, Robert Mwanza of Citizens Democratic Party, Cosmo Mumba of New Revolution Party and Edwin Sakala of Zambia Direct Democracy Movement.

And the two Civil Society Organisations are Zambian DNA represented by Spuki Mulemwa and Network for Young People Against Violence represented by Moses Kalonde.

The petitioners contend that the UPND and its allies are deliberately abusing the country’s democracy by attempting to disrupt the smooth governance through a frivolous motion.

The petitioners have also urged all other Members of Parliament to dismiss the motion with the contempt it deserves.

Meanwhile, PF founder member Edwin Lifwekelo says the opposition UPND is using the impeachment motion as a platform to raise issues regarding the failed presidential petition.

Lifwekelo says it is clear from the allegations raised in the impeachment motion that the UPND has exposed itself that it is NOT serious about dialogue.

He says the UPND is trivializing serious issues of national development with impunity instead of debating policies.

Lifwekelo adds that the opposition UPND does not mean well for Zambia.

This is according to a statementLifwekelo issued to ZNBC news in Lusaka.

And the Research Institute of Development and Democracy says the UPNDs push for Presidential impeachment and dialogue is hypocritical.

Institute director Malama Kapanda says the UPNDs stance is an act of double standards which should not be entertained.
