PF grabs Chilanga Constituency from UPND

The ruling party, Patriotic Front (PF) has also grabbed the Chilanga seat from the opposition UPND in a by-election held today.

The PF campaign team led by Justice Minister Given Lubinda are celebrating after their Parallel Voter Tabulation (PVT) results showed that their candidate Maria Langa had won the elections beating UPND’s Charmaine Musonda, NAREP candidate Pride Mazabuka and UPPZ’s Francis Kopa.

By press time ECZ was yet to declare the winner of the by-election. The opposition UPND also had announced that they had retained the seat according to their tallying.

In a statement on his Facebook page UPND Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba called on the ECZ to immediately announce the results saying his party would not accept any tricks.

The seat fell vacant following the conviction of Keith Mukata for murder who held the seat on UPND ticket.
