NDC stands a better chance of winning 2021 than UPND – Saboi

Muscian turned politician Saboi Imboela says the newly formed NDC of Chishimba Kambwili stands a better chance of forming government in 2021 than UPND which has been in opposition for nearly 20 years.

Ms Imboela who last week resigned from UPND to join NDC said this Saturday night when she featured on Zambian Eye’s Hot Seat live online programme.

She explained that having been in UPND since 2001, the work culture and tactic does not give hope of the party forming government anytime soon.

“Irene, being in UPND for a long time and knowing its work culture I know that NDC stands a better position to form government in 2021 than UPND due to its strategies and how hard it’s working. We were in opposition as UPND for 20 years and Sata formed government in 10 years. Believe it or not, NDC will form government in only 5 years while UPND keeps playing tricks of not going for a simple Convention or attracting and appreciating other talents,” Ms Imboela said when asked why she had decided to leave the UPND.

Giving her background, Ms Imboela said she was inspired to join politics after meeting UPND founder Anderson Kambela Mazoka who had resigned from Angro-America to join politics.

“I was introduced to the Zambian public as a musician. Part of the award winning duo Shatel in 2000. I later went to to do Political Science at UNZA in 2004. When I completed, the University hired me as a tutor in the department because I graduated as the best student in my year. The UN also employed me after that. But I worked for only a year while I worked as part time tutor at UNZA. I later went to do my masters in International Law and Politics in New Zealand at Canterbury University. When I came back I worked at Save the Children and a part time lecturer at UNZA and Kaniki Bible University College in Ndola.

“Thom (Shonga), I joined UPND in 2002 or so. I joined it because I met Mazoka in person. Asked for his autograph and he was so pleasant. He was actually the first Zambian I even got an autograph from and the second was KK.”

Ms Imboela said the NDC has a leader who is easy to sale to the Zambian electorate. She also claimed that the UPND due to selfishness of it’s leadership has failed to embrace people with talent who could have helped the party form government.

She said the UPND has failed to hold a convention since 2006 to elect new members a situation she says has made it have the same leaders not representing how the party has grown.

  1. Lady you are free to express your opinion and rightly done so, that is what democracy is about. I do not think UPND will not lose sleep about it. You should now concentrate on promoting you new party NDC and their policies.

    • True. Sometimes, we exaggerate our importance in society. Any major achievement of this lady apart from “gentelemani” and ensuring that her former husband was locked up? Remember, the great party PF is just looking at her yapping.

  3. This is how irrelevant opposition parties become. And UDC are happy with this crap politician. My foot! Instead of concentrating on attacking Lungu, she is busy attacking the opposition. Shame. I think she was a PF spy when she was in UPND. Kambwili, this woman will make you lose votes in many places outside the PF strong hold.

  4. Mr Mwanza point of correction we do not attack a person in politics, attacking Lungu, Kambwili or HH will never assist you and your party to win elections pliz…speak sense and convince the electorates is a key. Talking too much again people also gets tired remember in proverbs says (when words are many sin is not absent) meaning talking too much will make you making mistake, that is why even mr Kambwili he may be a good leader but he is talking alot people are now tired. If you compare what SATA was saying and what Kambwili is talking it is very different….Please speak sense and do not be a fault finder.
