The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) will from September 29th to 30th September, 2017 host a two day workshop on the International Olympic Committee Athlete Career Programme (IOC ACP) at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC).

Having seen that combining sport with education or work has become increasingly challenging for athletes not only in Zambia, but worldwide, this programme will provide resources and training to athletes, enabling them to develop their life skills and maximize their education and employment opportunities.

The programme will be delivered across three pillars which will include Education, Life Skills and employment being based on the needs and resources that work best for every athlete. Over 40 athletes including 100m Youth Olympic Gold Medalist Sydney Siame and boxer Benny Muziyo are expected to attend the workshop.

NOCZ Executive Director Brenda Chipande, is pleased to have the NOCZ offer this programme in Zambia and is encouraging invited participants from National Federations, to attend the workshop.

“We are delighted by the support we have received from the government through the Ministry of Youth Sport and Child Development, as sport administrators will effectively be trained to deliver key career transition programmes to Zambian elite athletes as they prepare to retire from active sport,” she said.

“We believe this is an important factor in sports development and a moral obligation that every Sports Administrator should try to address,” she added.

The International Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission is a driving force behind ensuring that athletes have access to the right resources and tools needed to transition out of their sporting career. Having worked with the International Olympic Committee and the Adecco since 2005 to create and deliver the IOC Athlete Career Programme (IOC ACP) to help elite athletes achieve success, the programme has been and is being delivered nationally in more than 35 countries across five continents in cooperation with Adecco country organizations and the National Olympic Committees (NOCs).
