Nakambala Leopards were relegated from the MTN FAZ Super League after they were defeated 4-0 at home to Zesco United on Wednesday.
After losing the reverse fixture 1-0 on Sunday, Nakambala needed to win by six unanswered goals to keep their chances of survival alive but they capitulated at the last hurdle and will play in the FAZ Division One Zone Four League next year.
The result left them in 15th position with 35 points from 34 matches for them to join Lusaka Dynamos, Lusaka Tigers and Mufulira Blackpool in relegation.
At the other end of the table, the result meant that Zesco United moved to 69 points, two ahead of rivals Nkana, both sides having played 33 matches.
Zesco United’s goals were scored by David Owino, Idriss Mbombo, Kashi Lupiya and Clatous Chama.
Both Nkana and Zesco United will have to wait until Saturday to learn which team finishes in second position to earn the only CAF Confederation Cup spot available to Zambia.
Zesco United have a superior goal difference over Nkana and can finish second with a draw at Lumwana Radiants while Nkana need to defeat Forest Rangers and hope that events in Lumwana go in their favour.
The MTN FAZ Super League has a single spot in the CAF Champions League which is given to the league champions while a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup is given to the team who finish second.
