Kabange Mupopo

Team Zambia’s medal hopes at the ongoing IAAF World Championships have come to nothing after the two representatives Kabange Mupopo and Sydney Siame tumbled in their respective races on Wednesday night.

400m specialist Mupopo finished seventh in the women’s 400m final, clocking 51:15 seconds in a race won by Phyllis Francis of the USA who took home the gold medal with a personal best time 49:92 seconds.

And sprinter Sydney Siame missed out on a spot in the final after he finished fourth in Heat 2 of the men’s 200m semifinals. The 20-year-old failed to beat his personal best of 20.29 seconds.

  1. The problem is Mpondela. The man has been leader of ZAAA for years and yet we keep on getting the same results. How can a country with a population of almost 17 million rely on only 2 athletes when small countries of 2 million like Botswana are fielding dozens? Mediocrity ba Zambian.

  2. Simple as that! In addition, these guys do not appreciate former world champion Samuel Matete. This is a person who should have been in forefront coaching the team and Mpondela and the rest of the management have never wanted him, how do you expect medals when a coach has never won any international medal

  4. Mupopo is a great athlete. Her performance in the heats and in the semi finals were great. All she needs is encouragement and proper leadership. Mupopo, your star is still rising.
