Zambia’s Afro-pop sensation Mumba Yachi will this weekend collaborate with Zimbabwean singer and mbira player Hope Masike at Afro Luso.

Afro Luso is a cultural exchange event hosted by Modzi Arts where music meets various forms of art. From the sweetest acoustic folk to thought-provoking theatre, from blazing hip-hop to stirring films, the monthly Afro Luso series brings together some of the most dynamic talents the southern African region has to offer. Music, poetry, art, photography, theatre and film are brought together under one Afro Luso roof, where ground-breaking artists from Zambia and around the region break bread, create, and inspire.

On Friday, October  21, Modzi Arts will hold a talk with Mumba Yachi Hope Masike on their artistic practice and translating heritage into the contemporary art spaces. Also speaking at the talk will be Graffiti artist Aero which should make for an interesting selection of topics on discussion.

The weekend event will be highlighted by a never seen before duet between Mumba Yachi and Hope Masike. The two musicians have collaborated to merge the unique sounds of Zambian and Zimbabwean folklore; a sound that could be the start of a new genre.
