President Edgar Lungu has revealed that the opposition UPND wants to bring anarchy in the country by rioting to pressure him to released the opposition party’s president Hakainde Hichilema.
Hichilema or HH as he is fondly called has been arrested and charged with treason which carries death sentence if convicted. Following HH’s arrest, there have been pockets of riots in the provinces where he commands more support but on Friday night the riots spread to Lusaka’s Mandevu and Kanyama townships.
But President Lungu who by press time was addressing Mbala a public rally in Mbala warned that he will arrest and throw to prisons those rioting.
President Lungu also vowed that he will not be pressured to release HH who has not yet been convicted. He said will leave the law to take it’s course.
He has also warned Diplomats to stay away from commenting on internal issues of sovereignty country.
“All criminal suspects will face full force of the law and the law is blind to social status.
I won’t interfere with the UPND leader’s case because no law allows me to do so. His case will go to the DPP for consideration for consent to prosecute.
All diplomats accredited to Zambia and NGOs trying to force me to intervene in this case are wasting their time and I want to caution that they keep away from interfering with the due process of the law.
I have no issues with the UPND and so even the so called dialogue with them is neither here nor there! Elections are over and the statutes governing elections determine how to win and that is over. I can discuss national issues that merit not a court case that has not been determined!”
