Roan PF Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili has been set free from police custody after meeting his bail conditions following a long drawn out ‘cat and mouse’ battle with the authorities who were seemingly intent on keeping him locked up for an extended period.

This was after the state handed over the passport belonging to Kambwili to the courts.

The passport that has been a subject of contention in Kambwili’s court case was handed over to magistrate Mwaka Mikalike today.

The magistrate court had among the prerequisites for bail demanded that Kambwili hands in his passport.

Earlier today, magistrate Mikalike had summonsed the Deputy Immigration chief to court to explain the whereabouts of the travelling document belonging to the NDC consultant.

Kambwili’s passport was seized by immigration authorities last Thursday from the NDC chief.

The former Information Minister was intercepted at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe airport upon his arrival from South Africa where he had travelled for routine medical attention.

Kambwili who has been taken ill at the UTH is currently formalizing his bail application with prison authorities.

He has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
