Kalaba rules out joining UPND or NDC

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba says he has no intention of joining the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or the UPND.

And Kalaba says he is the only one who can decide weather to continue as MP or resign as the constituon insulates him from being forced to relinquish his Bahati parliamentary seat that he still holds on the Patriotic Front ticket.

Kalaba, who featured on Hot FM’s Hot Seat program Thursday morning, hinted at the possibility of forming his own political party saying he was capable.

He said as a Prince the dictates of his tribe is that he can not be chased hence even in the PF no one can chase him and that he will only leave when he feels like leaving and not that that someone will chase him.
“NDC what is that? Oh! You mean the National Democratic Congress (NDC), I am not a member and I harbour no intentions of joining the NDC. I am not a member of the UPND and also harbour no intentions of joining them,” he said.

Kalaba wondered why he was being faught for being ambitious saying that there was nothing wrong with being ambitious as even councillors dreamt of being Members of Parliament while MPs wanted to be ministers.

He said that there was no need for him to resign as he still had a mandate to serve the people of Bahati Constituency.

“Even those people that are saying just resign, it is not just a matter of resigning. I am insulated by the constitution even when they say resign so that we see how we will defeat you. Don’t they know that under the current constitution I cannot even stand? I am insulated from being forced out under the constitution,” he said.

Kalaba said that he would not say whether he was going to form a new political party or not.

He also explained that his resignation had nothing to do with Malawian pastor Bushiri telling him that he would be the next President.

On the fired Sister feom the deplomatic service Kalaba said he had nothing to do with the deployment of his sister Chimese in the Foreign Service as she was employed even before he was foreign affairs minister.

Kalaba’s sister Chimese has been recalled in the aftermath of his fallout with the ruling Patriotic Front

  1. ONLY A TONGA MUST LEAD UPND says Sejani. UPND is a tribal party don’t ever make a mistake to join it bwana Kalaba. Non tongas in the UPND are just being used to fulfill its selfish ambition of delivering the first ever TONGA president to the state house, after that they will be dumped like diapers, worse still, its leader is a white color thief, a bitter man and a danger to the national peace and security

  2. Kalaba is one of the politicians I have had hope that he will make it up to the top in politics.I am now doubting if this will come true because he has prematurely destroyed what should have been a successful career.Patience in what we do is very cardinal.A good example of a patient young man is the former President of Tanzania Kikwete who rose within the ranks to make it to Presidency. This was my vision for Kalaba. The young man Kalaba has not been fully exposed politically like their PF founding father Michael Sata was.He went through literary all the ranks politics can offer,Branch Chairman in Bauleni,Senior District Governor City of Lusaka,Minister of State,Minister in various Ministries,National Secretary MMD and finally founding father of PF until being President of this Country.Check this exposure with Kalaba’s history.

  3. @George; in Zambia everything goes. It is a pity most voters do it carelessly. Remember when Sata was in opposition MMD said that Sata was not going to be Rep President.
