It is Sata, Guy Scott who privatised the Mines, not me – HH

Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema Tuesday morning dismissed assertions that he was the one who pravatised the mines in the country, reports Zambian Eye Correspondent.

Responding to a caller when he appeared on a Lusaka based private Radio station, Millennium, Hakainde said the ones who privatised the Mines in the early 90s were Michael Sata and Guy Scott who were part of the Frederick Chiluba MMD government.

Hichilema said he had no powers as a private businessman to come up with a policy on privatising the Mines. He said he was merely contracted as a businessman to carry the task by the then MMD government. Sata was one of the senior members of government then.

Michael Sata who is the current President of Zambia has accused Hichilema of having duped the government in the privatisation programme where he ended up being a beneficiary. Last year he even issued instruction that Hichilema be investigated.

Meanwhile, callers took Hichelima to task asking on what grant is there that he will not change on his promises like Sata and the PF who had promised more money in the people’s pockets. The callers complained that the PF had promised alot and has since backpedaled on their campaign promises.

In response Hichilema said he could not be compared to President Sata and the PF whom he accused of lacking skills to run the economy and uplift people’s lives. He charged that the PF’s campaign promises were done without policy and skill-backing adding that there was no way money would have just started flowing into people’s pockets by PF wining elections.

Hichilema charged that the PF is what he could call a failed project in business. He said in referrence to Sata that the man of action, the former Councilor had terribly failed. He said he was sure that the PF will be a one term government.

He urged Zambians to vote for him and the UPND if they want change saying there is no way things can change since same people from the time of independence have been entrusted to govern.

On the growth of UPND, Hichilema said the party had taken centre stage on the governance of the country. He said contrary to its critics, the UPND had grown in all provinces of Zambia. He said the UPND had won more seats in different parts of Zambian including areas the party had never held a seat during the by-elections held under PF.

He cited Kafulafuta constituency and a Ward Seat in Chililabombwe on the Copperbelt province. He said the party also won Solwezi West Seat in North Western province, Lukulu constituency in Western province and Katuba in Central province.

  1. I listened to this talk-show and believe you me that throughout the broadcast HH sounded presidential. Unlike the incumbent who had to embark on building his on house using tax payers money, HH says you go into politics to serve contrary to Munkombwe’s belief system about politics. Barack Obama used to make more money before he became president. But; here, under Chiluba and Sata, it is the other way round. I urge you fellow Zambians to vote wisely in the fourth coming tripartite elections. The UPND policies once implemented are good for this nation. The old recycled politicians under PF have nothing else to offer to this nation except lies which are now even back firing on them. Viva UPND!! Viva HH!!!

  5. Can he state his religion ,we know he is a Freemason, why does he need Christian votes? He is anti-Christ.He looted the privatisation money and sold himself the kabulonga house,he must have declared interest,he is just a big thief.HH just bought shares in already established companies using privatisation money, what skills is he talking about?

    • This is bizarre kind of thinking. He(HH) says he is a christian. Why do you want to clothe him with what he is not. If he at all stole anything from privatization, do you think the serpent could have spared him with all the venom that was being spat on him? The in coming president would lift up the Zambians by being a role model to many who would like to venture into business and succeed. Don’t shun success and glorify failure ba Kim. IT’S A PITY THAT THE ONES WHO PROMISED TO GOVERN BY EMPLOYING GOD’S TEN COMMANDMENTS ONLY KNOW ONE of the ten and that is “thou shall not steal”. Let’s consider those Zambians who by their policies are worth voting for and not LIARS.

  6. Bwana HH, there was nothing wrong in privatisation of the mines par se, but the manner in which you handled the process and the money which suddenly transformed/changed your status from a mere accountant to a businessman. When did you resign from your job at Mukuba house?

As for the votes, do you surely brag about pollings 250 votes in a town of 1m eligible voters?

    • Ba sir, understand this that when you are working in a private capacity for an organization be it, GRZ or not, you can negotiate for your own conditions. Do you or don’t you know these things ba Luapula Premiier. No wonder Mensa Otabil, a Pastor from Ghana, in one of his discourse says an African is very easy to please. Just buy him or her a bottle of fanta (or opaque beer (emphasis is mine) ) he is ready to part away with his or her vote without due consideration to policy issues on offer. LET US CHANGE THIS ARCHAIC OR MEDIEVAL WAY OF DOING THINGS.

    • Get records on the performance of Grant Thornton during privatisation to ascertain if they underperformed or they didn’t meet the terms of reference given to them by government.

      July 23, 2014 at 11:54 am

    • Bwana, if HH store as claimed by MCS why has he failed to arrest him? You seem to know the facts that the government doesnt have, go ahead a build a case against HH and win.
