Keith Mukata

THE people of Zambia, particularly those from Chilanga, I wish to greet you and hoping that you’re all fine. For me, life is okay although could be better but despite being confined there is life here too.

I write this letter in connection to the recent development surrounding the election of someone who will replace me in Chilanga. This constituency shall forever occupy a special place in my heart, as such I feel duty bound to add a voice.

In this respect, let me begin by giving what my agenda was for Chilanga with a view of offering my people and Zambians first hand information of what , if I had my way, I would love the winner of the election to carry on.

Lafarge, leader mondial des matériaux de construction : ciment, béton, granulats, plâtre / Lafarge is the world leader in building materials, with top-ranking positions in Cement, Concrete, Aggregates and Gyps

From it’s initial economic status, Chilanga has always remained an economic hub which houses Lafarge Cement, Mount Makulu Research Station and Head Quarters of the Zambia Agricultural Research Institute (ZARI),Zambia Department of Fisheries, KnowledgeBeat as well as Sundy’s Creation – these all mark this Constituency as a unique one among all. My agenda was to oversee a robust revamp of other ventures such as Munda Wanga and Eureka Gaming Park as well as offer an entrepreneurial opportunity to youths and women in the quarry mining business in the area. Chilanga seats on a rock hill and this is an opportunity we wanted to clutch and help our community.

However, we couldn’t do these things without a heart for our people. This is to say, above everything else, a presentative of such an area must be an individual who should be above politics in the representation in Parliament.

President Lungu addressing Parliament

I have bee a subject of ridicule before for standing up against partisanship in my duties as representative of Chilanga when I decided to stay put when the President Edgar Chagwa Lungu gave his State of Nation Address (SONA). My party discredited me and labeled me a saleout but the fundamental principle of any MP is to represent people who voted for him or her. We may differ on party lines but what we seek to do is to improve affairs of Zambia. I personally believe my decision to defy the directive given by the leadership of my party UPND was out of the heart I have for the people.

You may wish to know that this verdict set me apart with the leadership and membership of my party which persistently remained absent during my trial over the case I stood charged and convicted for.

My party alleged I was a surrogate of the PF but this accusation could not be justified because if the governing party was in any way benefiting from my representation, I would not be sentenced like how it is now. Of course, the tenets of democracy demands coexistence among rivals.

Miles Sampa

Last week, I was visited by a good friend of mine Honourable Miles Sampa. He came to tell me that his party had adopted Maria Langa. I have also learnt that my party UPND has adopted Charmaine Musonda whose identity I need not discuss.

Mariah Langa

I want to put it on record that, if I had my way, I would endorse the PF candidate for reasons that the people of Chilanga deserve a presentative who has a heart for people, who will resist manipulation on party lines.

I thank the prison authorities for allowing me to draft this note. Above all, pray for me and my family as well as everyone in prison.

  2. Anything to try & save his neck I guess. Sad but the vultures of political opportunism are real scavengers living happily especially when surrounded by stench of death.

  4. “ONLY A TONGA MUST LEAD UPND” says Sejani. Well said Mr. Mukata. IT is a pity that you have come to know the true colors of this tribal cult called UPND when you are behind bars. This is the party which does not know not only democracy but also moral standards. It is a party which is centered on one selfish individual and a core tribalist HH. UPND is HH and HH is UPND, he is actually a small god in UPND . Like you have said it correctly Mukata, UPND hates you for doing a very noble thing of remaining in parliament to debate issues affecting the people that voted for you. Unfortunately you were misunderstood by these by these people and labeled a PF surrogate.I wish you all the best in your case. HH A TICKING TIME BOMB TO ZAMBIA’S PEACE & SECURITY.

  5. What is Keith Mukata up to? His was poor judgement thus finding himself on the uncomfortable side of the law and as a professional lawyer he understands his situation better unless he wants to be in denial! Keith also knows very well that his defection curtailed the then hopeful preferred candidate at the time. I applaud him for reading the situation on the ground rightly as to defect for had he not taken that route he was doomed to lose out being an MP. However I was among the unhappy who felt the party UPND had short changed the Chilanga electorate by adopting him at the expense of a devout cadre! I am sure not everyone is rejoicing over Keith’s predicament but varied opinions indicate where the people are thus best not joining in the foray to current happenings in your former constituency! While legal processes are in place the cross is his to bear though indeed there are some Josephs’ of Arimathea!

  6. Mr Mukata pities me not because of his incarceration but his late move of trying to milk a dead damme in the name of UPND. Why wait until you are in prison to air out your mind of minds? You don’t believe your girlfriend is capable of the challenge something some of us have pointed out but have you spoken to Garry and Jack. Have you given them the depth of issues as you assert them? What respite can you get from a team of individuals that don’t embrace divergent views on matters of national interest? What can surely come out of a team of people that think in a straight line?
Well I can go on and on. The dice is cast we that are watchmen are on vantage point observing all moves on the ground. And as at now the scale is tipping off your grid.
