Government grabs land from HH

The ruling party, Patriotic Front (PF) has grabbed the land from opposition Hakainde Hichilema in Namwala he bought from traditional ruler.

Hichilema who is also a rancher bought some 1500 hectres traditional land which he thereafter started fencing denying access to local people which were using the land for their cattle grazing.

Lands Minister Jean Kapata has announced that government has taken back the land and given it back to the local people. Kapata ordered that HH should with immediately effect stop fencing the land.

Kapata warned that anyone who will be found working or fencing the land will be arrested. She said the government was acting on the interest of the local community.

  6. All the posts posted lack objectivity and depth. Vulgarities won’t have any of you peace.
    The issues you need to ask are
    1. What does the Constitution say with regards to land acquisition either from a chiefdom, land merchant and otherwise.
    2. If a chief has the right to sale much is permissible
    3.In which situations does the Law provide for the minister of Lands to repossess Land?
    If you can have clear answers for these basic questions, you will have a good idea of what is happening and who has done a misdeed.

  8. The government did the same in Serenge or somewhere there. It even became a human rights issue. They gave that land to foreigners. Why didn’t they grab it back from those foreigners and give it back to the villagers?
