Give vendors two streets to do their business – Kambwili

NDC incoming leader Chishimba Kambwili has echoed UPND Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba’s sentiments that street vendors should be taken back to the streets with immediate effect.

Mwamba, featuring on Prime TV last evening, gave government 48 hours in which to allow vendors to return to the streets as government finds alternative places for them to conduct their business as it is their only source of livelihood.
And Kambwili who calls himself NDC political consultant but today addressed himself as the leader of the new party told a press briefing that his party was of the view that street vendors were being used as a scapegoat for the garbage in Lusaka that is fueling the cholera pandemic.
He defended street vendors saying the problem fueling cholera was not traders but the contaminated water that runs in the taps across Lusaka.
Kambwili said that instead of chasing the vendors in the city they should be allowed back and that cleaner facilities must be put in place.
He suggested that vendors should be allocated at least two streets that should be kept clean within the city adding that vendors had been thrown off the streets for political reasons.
He observed that President Edgar Lungu had solved a problem by creating a bigger problem.
Kambwili also gave a dressing down to Daily Nation newspaper editor Richard Sakala whom he accused of being paid to scandalize the NDC.
He said that Sakala had been given money by the PF to be writing negative stories about the NDC leadership.
Kambwili however vowed never to pay attention to what Sakala writes in his publication.

  1. We understand and appreciate that people must do their trading to earn a living.
However there must be order in the way the trade is conducted.
We must all encourage each other to trade from formal designated places.
Street vending should never ever be allowed again.
Even the houses of those coercing vendors back to the streets have order because they cannot for instance use their lounge as a toilet nor a bathroom as a kitchen .
No more cheap populist politics .
If our neighbouring countries can have order and sanity in their cities why can’t we ?

  2. Chishimba Kambwili never performed in any ministry he was given to run. Remember how did he last as Foreign Affairs or Labour Minister?? He failed in the 2 important ministries but now he wants to be President and we have people supporting him. He will never tell you what he will do if he became President but just insults other people. I have known Chishimba from his Mpatamatu days, danced in the Mine Club Band, employed as Industrial Relations officer by he uncle Mr. Chishimba, the time he was arrested as a murder suspect until he joined politics. He is full of wind. He can cheat you but not me.

  6. Unworkable. The streets were not designed for vendors. They were designed for traffic. In fact if traffic stops flowing they might have no customers
