GBM drags Daily Nation to court, denies insulting Sata

GBMVocal Opposition UPND Vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has instructed his lawyers to sue the Daily Nation Newspaper  over the lead story headed “GBM insults Sata” published by the Newspaper.

And Mwamba has also demanded that the Newspaper should pay him the money it owes him. Without stating the amount, Mwamba in a publicized telephone conversation tells Chilufya Tayali that the Daily Nation should give him his money.

Mwamba commonly known as GBM stated that the story alleging that he had insulted Sata was malicious aimed at denting his image and break his relationship with the Sata Family.

Below is the press statement by GBM:

I wish to tell the nation that the lead story of the Daily Nation headed “GBM insults Sata” is intentional and malicious to dent my image and break my relationship with the Sata Family whom I hold so dearly.
For your own information I worked and lived as a family with the late President, Michael Chilufya Sata for many years.
First of all, as an African and a person of moral standing in society, it is unacceptable for me to get to such levels of insulting the dead. Surely no African not even a child can stand up today and talk evil or insult the dead as Daily Nation has written in verbatim.
I do believe that the media are there to inform, educate and entertain people and not to circulate malice aimed at assassinating other people’s character for personal gain.
It is well known that am a Vice President of the United Party for National Development which is a government in waiting and as such how do I sink so low to discuss mediocrity in public.
Daily Nation needs to know that there is nothing newsworthy in malicious writing. Actually what has been published is not only malicious but damaging my reputation while hurting to family of ‘abayashi ‘the late President Sata whom as I said I hold so dearly. In an African tradition the story has no doubt exposed me to ridicule and hatred as the dead deserve to be respected.
Imagine the impression the story has caused to the family of the Late, my family and friends, Party members and supporters including those who have read the story.
Having said this, I wish to inform the Nation that I have with immediate effect instructed my legal team to sue the Daily Nation over the lead story published on Sunday April 10, 2016.

Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba MP
UPND, Vice President for Administration.

  1. We all know that Richard Sakala out of hatred for HH and UPND has always written against the party and trying to win hearts of his friends in PF. He should NOT forget however that he saved as a criminal in prison and he should not use his media as if his arrests were caused by HH or UPND, it was his selfishness and greediness which again he is using as a whip to opposition leaders. Daily Nation must be careful especially the way he is fighting with other independent media as though he is the one with all knowledge. The story was very damaging making us wonder who GBM is. But now we hope things may be put straight though the damage created by the paper to GBM and UPND is big that even an apology cannot be accepted.
