The Under-20 team pose for a photo after being crowned as champions

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has issued the following message following the Under 20 National team emerging as winners of the AFCON 2017 tournament that was hosted in Zambia.

We have done it. What a day for Zambia. What a day for Africa. We are the champions.

Patson Daka and Edward Chilufya again. Congratulations boys.

Congratulations Beston “Quick Silver” Chambeshi. Congratulations Biltone Musonda.

Congratulations to my friend Andrew Kamanga. What a gift to our youth on their day.

For us this was expected. We believed in our boys. We believed in our youth.

When properly harnessed, this is what our youth are capable of; bringing joy and happiness to our nation.

It is time for all of us to encourage our youth to be productive and leave no space for being used to perpetrate violence.

The world is full of opportunities and those boys on that pitch just explored the opportunity they have been given to the maximum.

We are champions and have qualified to the Under 20 soccer world cup in Korea.

CONGRATULATIONS BOYS.

GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  5. Why no fireworks after the victory? Is FAZ that broke? Or doesn’t Kamanga and Ponga know how to celebrate?

  7. HH is mean. How do you congratulate all those and leave out the president of the land. He helped the team win through his financial support and physical presence at the stadium.
All the 2 Afcon cups have for the first time been won by Zambia under PF reign. Did HH see this?

    • Can you for once leave out Politics in some issues? This message is encouraging and soothing. Well done boys. You have done it for Zambia and for yourselves. look beyond rhetoric. Now is time to build your careers, whether as footballers or otherwise. Thankyou.

  8. While congratulating the boys, I have a fear lingering in my mind. The fear is on the unknown, really, and that with this glory and excitement how will these boys manage to keep focused on building their career? These boys are in cool cash all of a sudden and this may get to their heads. I hope my fear is misplaced. But shouldn’t FAZ consider a long-term arrangement whereby these boys should be under some sort of management and continuously focus on football and not carried away by newly acquired status as AFCON Champions?
