FDD Aspiring MP attacked in Namwala

Opposition FDD says its parliamentary candidate in Namwala has been severely beaten by suspected UPND cadres.

FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza, who is contesting the Munali seat, said the incident happened on Friday June 17th, 2016

Mwanza alleged that UPND cadres who were led by former Namwala MP Moono Lubezhi  attempted  to set ablaze the vehicle of Charity Kabongomana, an FDD candidate for the Namwala seat.

“Yesterday in Namwala, UPND cadres led by their Namwala aspiring candidate and immediate past Namwala MP, Madam Moono Lubezhi brutally attacked our aspiring Namwala candidate, Madam Charity Kabongomana and her team breaking her arm and leg. She is agonizingly lying in pain at Namwala hospital. They further extensively damaged her vehicle and attempted to set it ablaze.” Mwanza said.

Ms Lubhezi refuted ever leading Cadres to attack the FDD candidate. She told Zambian Eye in an interview from Namwala that the FDD had been trailing her and interrupted her meeting at Shimashikwe Polling station in Chief Muchila.

She explained that while she was addressing a rally the FDD team bashed to one of her campaign vehicles which was parked by the roadside.

“We just heard a bang, at that point people went to the roadside. Then they started shouting ‘ ba FDD basika’ (it is the FDD they have come) at that point we quickly got on the vehicle and drove off . I decided to go to Namwala police to report what had happened. When we arrived at the police we found officers about to go to the scene that they had received a report that some people had been beaten,” Ms Lubhezi explained.

Ms Lubhezi said she reported the matter to the police. Later she heard that some villagers were annoyed and attacked the FDD for interrupting the UPND meeting.

She wondered how the FDD ended up at the UPND meeting saying she realised that they had been trailing her.

  1. Isn’t the opposition supposed to be united? This is appalling. Anyway, for me I’m just enjoying sharing campaign funds from all parties.

    • Wherever violence occurs UPND is involved.
when you here there is violence anywhere it is either UPND fights with PF, or UPND is fighting with FDD or UPND is fighting other parties.
In short, it is reasonable to conclude that UPND is at the center of every political violence. And it is unreasonable to conclude that the preceding conclusion is wrong.

  3. This utter foolishness. I don’t expect violence from any party and whoever started this and did this must be tamed. We can’t have this kind of backwardness continue in our country. Let the law take care of the perpetrators of this violence.

  4. UPND iam an Independent and gravitating towards you but with these violence, you will lose my vote.If you are doing this in opposition, what of if you get in power. HH, GBM and leadership please act and punish these idiots publicly otherwise you will lose to the undecided and independent voters as you will be deemed the same as PF. You need to differentiate yourself. This is really a shame.

  5. This woman is evil. How could she do that to her fellow woman. She must be disqualified because she has greatly disadvantaged the other candidate. There is no way I can believe that FDD went to her rally to disturb them. How many FFD cadres are in Namwala compared to UPND. It would be suicide. Ms Lubezhi is guilty and must be made accountable.

  8. Political violence is a stupid move . pf,upnd & fdd please don’t be in a fools paradise trying to attack one another. Its too much now and the police are not doing their job. The problem is whenever we hear of violence more especially if perpetrated by pf, the pf will actually support their cadres and say they were just provoked and they retaliated just imagine. even the upnd should also blame their cadres because upnd and pf are the most notorious parties. In Lusaka this time the pf cadres are dominating the city and they always threated anyone putting on opposition ligalias. This clear tells us that we cannot trust Lungu and his government. Anyway , am pf but am not happy the Lungu behaves .

  9. Now this is Chuundu Chaitwa proper, Mapatizya Formula improper. GBM Administration at work and UPND fulfilling their mission in the 2016 General Elections.
They normally are not violent in their bedroom. May be Summer Kabimba is right by saying that not even their bedroom is safe anymore.
2021 is waiting with GBM as Presidential Candidate and Garry Nkombo as running mate.

  10. Iam 100% UPND member and I will a member of the party until I don’t know. But what happened in namwala is so disturbing. Let our top leadership investigate this matter seriously and if moono is involved let her be disqualified. Let us not protect one individual at the expense of the entire party. Let us allow any party to campaign freely in any part of the country. Please ba in coming president deal the namwala issue seriously to protect our integrity. HH and UPND for life
