FAZ postpones league matches

The Football Association of Zambia has pushed all week six Super Division matches that were scheduled to be played on Saturday to Sunday due to national mourning.

All matches in the FAZ league will now be played on Sunday.

Government declared a three day state funeral in honour of the death Salome Kapwepwe who was the wife of former vice president Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe.

FAZ acting general secretary Sam Phiri told Fazfootball.com that the association had pushed the matches to Sunday to comply with the national mourning.

He said that FAZ had written to the Ministry of Sports to seek clearance to play league matches on Saturday with the condition to hold a minute of silence and also have players wear black arm bands but there had been no green light given.

Phiri said the CAF Confederation Cup fixture between Zesco United and Smouha of Egypt will go on as scheduled.

President Edgar Lungu declared three days of national mourning in honour of Salome who will be put to rest on Saturday.
