Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga has congratulated Fifa referee Jan Sikazwe for his appointment as one of the 22 centre referees for the U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017.
Sikazwe is among three Confederation of African Football (CAF) referees that will be among the 22 from across the globe.
Kamanga said Sikazwe had done the country proud especially after officiating the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.
“On behalf of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and the rest of the football family, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your appointment as referee for the Fifa U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017,” said Kamanga in a statement.
“Not too long ago, you were appointed as referee for the Fifa Club World Cup final between Real Madrid and Kashima Antlers.”
Sikazwe received the President’s Award during the MTN/FAZ League Gala night.
Zambia is among the 24 countries that will be participating at the Fifa U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017.
Beston Chambeshi’s boys are in Group C alongside Portugal, Costa Rica and Iran.
A total of 22 refereeing trios and five support referees from 34 different countries will officiate the matches.
Africa has representation in six assistant referees.
