EU congratulates Lungu but….

The European Union has congratulated President-elect Edgar Lungu and says it looks forward to deepening its partnership with the Republic of Zambia.

The EU Election Observation Mission has noted that Zambians turned out in large numbers to vote in the August 11 general elections and says its preliminary assessment found that voting was peaceful and generally well administered.

However, the EU Election Observation Mission says it found the elections marred by systematic bias in the state media and restrictions on the campaign.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, the EU says it expects all the political parties and electoral stakeholders to act in order to preserve peace, stability and tolerance in the country. Existing legal channels should be used to address possible complaints.

The EU Election Observation Mission will remain in the country until completion of the electoral process and will issue a final report with recommendations within two months.

  2. The elections might have been relatively free, but they were never ever fair!

Lungu’s blockage of State/public media, namely Times of Zambia,Zambia Daily Mail, ZANIS, ZNBC Radio and TV from the Opposition and the shutting down of the only independent private news paper, The Post, rendered the whole camnpaign exercise a mockery.

The election exercise was very primitive. The Opposotion was excluded from the public media, how the hell were they expected to reach to the electorates in the absence of communication which PF was enjoying lirerally freely? This was just a joke of campaign!

If the Opposition could not reach out to people effectively, who then was Lungu competeing with, Frogs?

Lungu is inciting violence in this Country, for if people are not allowed to compete in a civil manner, they might as well fight!

  3. We thank God for allowing EL to rule Zambia and we will again thank God if HH will be allowed to rule Zambia. No doubt, Zambia will surely prosper by the grace of God.

  4. Clever statement from EU observers. They will issue recommendations in two months. What will be the recommendations and to who?
To the donors? ECZ? Or both?
What are the possible recommendations to the donors?
    1. Stop sponsoring an emerging dictator?
    2. Stop sponsoring corruption?
    3. Or is’t all is rosy the president is visionary?

Notice they don’t mention the word “free and fair” like the African observers?
Was this deliberate or fear of misusing words?

    Let’s wait and see!!

    • @Musokotwane you mean in line with the fake Christian churches. How can these church call themselves Christians. They supporting a person that rigged the elections. A person who only cares about himself.

ECL is the master mind behind the rigging. That is a very wrong example to set for the future generations.

These so called fake churches are enjoying the fruits of bribes and don’t care a hoot about teaching people to be honest.

  6. They are useless observers. They just came to be fed by the ECL corrupt regime and make fake statements. Some organizations just need to be abolished because they serve no purpose. What’ s point having organizations which serve no value ?

    • So you think they are nincompoops like you, smart as they are ? The one who is in trouble is you because all the kaloba your Edgar Lungu and the PF got from other countries will be on your head. You will face tougher times than before and you will start eating the vitenges which Lungu was dishing out freely to you and then fail to dance the dununa music because of hunger. Ulekwata mano, icikopo niwe because your wisdom and knowledge is limited and can’ t see beyond your nose.

  9. As Albert Einstein once wisely remarked, “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.” Those who praise them for wrong doing.

  10. But, poor Zambians have even heavier nkongoles/kaloba on unplanned infrastruturen, for which the IMF are even coming for possible bail out or monitoring, because PF has failed to govern the Country on their own!PF thought they could govern the Country by abra ka dabra, magic: let there be a road – then there is a road, let there be a district – then there is a district, let there be a Province – then there is a province, let there be schools and hospitals bla bla!

    • @ubufi There comes a point when people have had enough. The world has changed to a more modern age. Yet we continue to be subjected to living in primitive conditions. Zambia is rotting with Corruption, which is impeding the development and growth of our country. The election rigging is testimony of how bad our country has become.
Those days when our voices were silenced by intermediation are over. We have a voice as well as numerous platforms where our voices are heard.

The Court will view the high volume of evidence and either declares a re-run or HH won. ECL chances are slim as people need to be held accountable for rigging the elections

What is at stake here is our democracy. Hence we are prepared to fight for our country. We not living in the 1900, we in 2016

  16. i would like to ask these UPND sympathizers one question, since time immemorial in Zambian politics petitions against elections have been there and no political party has ever been successful, and so how special is the UPND to petition their fifth loss and be successful? it seems you UPND chaps have no gumption, any way “NYAKULILA SA MUGWILA KUKAMWA”continue writing in water and expect to see what you wrote.
