ECZ bans Smart phones in Polling stations

Smart phonesThe Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has said that no one will be allowed to enter any polling station with a Smart cellphone to avoid leaking unconfirmed results. The ban on cellphones includes polling officers.

NokiaThe only mobile phones allowed will be 3310 by ECZ.

“They want to rig elections, they know the latest phones can take clear pictures, and emails can be send quickly. Twitting is a quicker way to communicate with the world. What you saw in Uganda, PF government wants to do the same, oppression and intimidation,” said Mwamba Payne Kapema a political commentator.

The Commission has said that election results will be sent to the totaling center electronically.

ECZ chairperson, Justice Esau Chulu said that the ECZ will not allow for the recounting of ballot papers at the totaling centre, adding that anybody who would be aggrieved with the outcome should seek a court petition.

  3. These issues must be ironed out before elections. All rules governing these elections, must satisfy all stake holders, on whose behalf the commission was employed. They cannot be allowed to introduced unreasonable laws that are aimed to disadvantage the people Zambia of free & fair elections. This is not about opposition or ruling party, it is about us all.

  4. Not surprising. Rigging already in motion. What is happening in Kenya with their ECZ version is coming to Zed. Watch out.

  5. This is about us Zambians NOT PF or UPND. It is about all of us and any mistake one will suffer consequences. Smart phones should be allowed. No rigging ba PF.

  6. Unfortunately the ECZ now is the waste and stupid institution which does not take into account the interest of its stake holders. Why not considering the interest of the stakeholders? All these directives are coming from PF. Voting is not an easy thing ECZ must try to be honest.
    The problem is LUNGU. What type of the party which cannot respect the former first lady. Mrs.Lungu must not proud of where she did not saw Rubbish.
