Don’t paint Mukobeko prison now – UPND

Prison

The opposition UPND has urged authorities at Mukobeko Maximum Security prison where party leader is detained not to to paint the prison.

In a statement below, the UPND says it has information that authorities want to paint the prison. The party fears this maybe dangerous to its leader Hakainde Hichilema as paint has chemicals which maybe dangerous.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma says if authorities insists on painting the prison they should take Hichilema back to Chimbokaila prison.

Below is the statement:

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

16/07/2017.

WHY PAINT MUKOBEKO PRISON NOW? STOP IT, IF NOT, BRING OUR PRESIDENT, MR HAKAINDE HICHILEMA BACK TO CHIMBOKAILA PRISON WITHOUT FAIL.
_________________________

We are deeply concerned by reports that the Zambia Correctional Services intends to paint the Mukobeko Maximum prison any time from now especially at a time like this when our Party President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema is being held there.

Without doubt, we question the motive behind this painting as you may all know that paint in itself could be hazardous and contains harmful substance to the human health and this includes the heath of our President.

While we are fully aware of the filthy conditions under which Mr. Hichilema and other detainees are living, we believe our party President can endure the unpainted condition of the cell under which he is being kept.

We demand that the Zambia Correctional Services stops this plan forthwith as it does not guarantee any hope of good health on the part of our President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.

And in the same line, we wish to state here that if the Zambia Correctional Services wants to go ahead and paint the inside of the Mukobeko prison, they must not paint the cell room where our party President is being detained. Paint takes many days to dry. It is unreasonable to paint Hakainde Hichilema’s cell during the day and expect him to sleep their in the night before the paint dries up.

We are wondering whether this is the reason why the Zambia Correctional Services working together with the Police forcefully defied the court order and moved our party president from Chimbokaila to Mukobeko Maximum prison.

We once again strongly demand that our party president be brought back to Chimbokaila in Lusaka if the state wishes to insist with its plans of painting the inside of Mukobeko Maximum prison in Kabwe .

We wish to remind Zambia Correctional Services that by nature, paint has chemicals which may also be harmful and they should not dare subjecting our President, Hakainde Hichilema to such.

Fellow citizens, should they go ahead and paint the inside of Mukobeko Maximum prison and the room where our party president is held, the country must hold them responsible for what may arise thereafter.

Its not too long ago that our President stated that his life was in danger and it is difficult for us to trust the Zambia Correctional Services that it will protect him from danger when they also lied to him before forcefully taking him to Luanshya for a court case.

  1. Its amazing how a govt can invest so much money and time just to kill or harm HH.Why not just try him for Treason and convict him in Court? They want to poison him at all costs. This illegitimate Lungu govt if full of murder of crows. They are so afraid of HH and UPND and they are hell bent on eliminating an innocent Opposition Leader. Lungu and his govt has no evidence of Treason to try HH in Court. They fear to be embarrassed hence they want to poison HH and kill him so that Zambians will never know how Lungu stole the 2016 Election. They have committed so many crimes and they are seeing HH’s shadow all the time. The Stolen Election and the Petition are haunting Lungu and his murder of crows big time.

  2. UPND is entitled to be heard and i hope the authorities for whom this msge is meant will hear them on their appeal against painting the prison whilst their leader is there.

Here the UPND have a genuine objection to make and if ‘prisons authorities’ insist on their plan to paint, then they should take HH’s health into full consideration and find him an acceptable alternative.

  3. It is amazing that Edgar Lungu evil plans are already laid bear. president you can’t tell that it is the state who have done it and not known in advance. Whatever evil schemes Edgar plan is reported in the media before he does it but he goes ahead to do it.

The scheme to arrest HH was reported way before it happened. The scheme to declare State of Emergency was reported again way before it happened. Now the intention to kill HH is being reported. Therefore, UPND and other well meaning citizens should not take it lightly. PF is not intelligent enough to hide its schemes. President Chiluba was slightly smarter though he committed similar crimes against citizens.

Edgar Lungu will not be prosecuted by HH but by his party when he leaves office. He has enemies within his party. Chiluba thought Mazoka would prosecute him but it was Mwanawasa who did that. HH has always indicated that he doesn’t want to spend time prosecuting previous presidents. For Edgar Lungu no one will ignore that including his own party.

  4. I advise the prison officials to stop painting the prison. It would not shock me if UPND protested the fall in Mealie meal prices because they are drunk with bitterness. Every good thing is protested. What is going on UPND? I am Truly concerned.

  8. Its high time which Zambian gvt should consider peace to prevail.Ill treatment of one another black to black is not good at all.Incarcerating others on hate measure is not the answer.Zambia should copy from Zimbabwe, ZANU Pf and MDC resolved their issues amicably for the sake of progress. The way Hichilema is being handled is not good, even animals cannot reckon it.We fought imperialism but today its us who are practicing it on our own brothers and sisters, why?Am following from an out side world perspective, it is only Zambia which have made a road obstruction offence a treason charge. We should emulate Kaunda from the beginning. We should value humanity and fear God.It is my plea as an individual and on behalf of all Zambians to H.E president Lungu,to reconsider the matter from all angles and think deep into it without anyone’s advice included and start thinking on mapping way forward for peace. This situations need Zambians to refrain and bring back peace. Us who have Zambian part on the other hand it pains us the way HH is being treated.May he be released and let peace talks begin while he is with his family. It is not HH who is being punished alone but part of the nation and us the neighbors to your country.A sad note of Zambia we feel it too.

  10. On earth there is time for everything, so let us not get worried about the current situation in our country. Our duty as citizens of this country is to use the key to unlock the situation and the key is prayer. God has never and will never disappoint anyone let us just pray faithfully. Having being a Zambian citizen for 21 years, I strongly disagree that Zambia is a christian nation. It is not a christian nation instead we only have people who are Christians in this country.
May the almight GOD bless our country including its leaders. Besides, HE should give our leaders wisdom to stop this current political crisis our country is experiencing.
