DA leader Maimane deported back to South Africa by Zambian government

The Zambian government has deported Mmusi Maimane, Opposition party President of Democratic Alliances in South Africa who wanted to attend the treason hearing slapped on Zambia’s main opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema tomorrow.

The Zambian government allege that the opposition leader’s presence would ridicule and undermine the integrity of the Court.

The South African opposition leader Mmusi Maimane denied entry at the Kenneth Kaunda International Lusaka Airport and briefly detained for one hour.

Maimane who is leader of the Democratic Alliance in South Africa, arrived at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) with South Africa Airlink at 17:45hrs.

The Zambian government ordered Mr. Maimane to immediately return to South Africa stating that his presence was inimical to the rule of law in Zambia and would subject the judicial process involving Zambia’s Hakainde Hichilema ridicule.

The government also said his presence would undermine the independence , integrity and standing of the Court charging Hakainde Hichilema.

Maimane has since been deported to South Africa

The DA announced that its leader , Mmusi Maimane would travel to Zambia and was going to to attend United Party for National Development (UPND) leader, Hakainde Hichilema’s court appearance due on Friday.

The DA also announced that it would rally the support of other regional opposition leaders to travel to Zambia to pressure the government of Zambia and the courts of law to release Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.

The South African main opposition Leader is the latest to be deported by the Zambian government as more foreign dignitaries intending to visit the incarcerated UPND President may suffer the same undemocratic if not dictatorial intents.

  1. Talking about the apartheid roots of the Democratic Alliance party will not make what the PF government is doing right.
    South Africa is a democracy and the past is buried with apartheid. Reconciliation and Truth Commission freed every party from the sins of apartheid. South Africa now has a very progressive constitution a few years after the abolition of apartheid in 1994!

    Zambia has a “chang’anya” one after 53 years of independence.

    Is PF about to get Zambia out of the Commonwealth since it is vested in British colonial rule?

  3. Zuma who is a president did condemn Lungu over his dictatorship, today is the opposition, then who is in support of him? Don’t forget that the majority of Zambian business men and women travel to SA for orders. You are the same people who promote xenophobia. Sit down and reason well for ur decisions.
