Opposition NDC shadow leader Chishimba Kambwili has been saved by the Magistrate Court which has given him bail.

The state Security in an attempt to punish Kambwili who has been very vocal in his criticism of President Lungu and the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) denied him police bond last week and threw him in police cells.

Within a few hours of being in cells, Kambwili was reported ill after his blood pressure shot up. He was rushed to CFB, a privately-owned hospital in Lusaka where he was hospitalised until Tuesday.

After being discharged Kambwili was taken to Woodlands Police station then Magistrate court where state prosecutors failed to show up forcing the Magistrate Court to adjourn the case to Wednesday. He was taken back to Woodlands and his conditioned became bad forcing the police to take him to UTH as they were reports that some private hospitals had been instructed not to take him in.

The Magistrate Court however granted Kambwili a K10,000 bail with two working sureties.

The court has also ordered Kambwili to surrender his passport.

Kambwili was arrested by the ACC and charged with 39 counts.

He appeared before Lusaka Magistrate Mwaka Mwikalile before a fully packed courtroom

Earlier there was panic when the police who are guarding Kambwili at UTH refused that they could not escort him to court as the case was under ACC.

Kambwili was however taken to court and he arrived at Lusaka magistrate court around 09:30hrs in company of his lawyers, wife Carole Kambwili, his Son Mwamba Kambwili, also his Daughter Kabamba Kambwili.

Also among NDC members was Deputy Secretary General for NDC Bridget Hantanga, MCC Lombani Msichili and other NDC members.

UPND President Hakahinde Hichilema, Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, Sylvia Masabo, MMD President Nevers Mumba are also present at court.
