A youth governance activist has added his voice to the condemnation of the behaviour of a traditional leader from Southern Province who questioned the nationality of Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu, describing the behaviour as anarchist.

In a statement, Humphrey Milandile Mwenya who is a former Copperbelt University Student’s Union president observed that the move by Chief Mukuni to join the chorus by opposition UPND and People’s Party president Mike Mulongoti of claiming that President Lungu was a foreigner was portrayal of a conduct likely to cause a breach of the country’s peace and stability.

He accused His Royal Highness of questioning the credibility of the information of his colleagues from Eastern Province and that Chief Mukuni feels that he and his people are more Zambian the other tribe.

“The UPND, Chief Mukuni and Mike Mulongoti are portraying conduct likely to cause breach of peace with their continued baseless accusations that President Edgar Lungu is a foreigner when he is Nsenga by tribe.

“It may seem that his Royal Highness is suggesting that there is a tribe or groups of people that are more Zambian than others. Questioning the nationality of our Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is not only ancient, primitive and stone aged but also pits Easterners against Southerners as Easterners may feel that their counterpart was attacking one of their subjects,” He said.

He added “Chief Mukuni of the Tonga speaking people should clearly state who the true Zambians are, if  Chief Kalindawalo of the Nsenga speaking people, Chief Mumbi, Chief Nyampande, Chieftaines Nyanje and other Zambian Chiefs are foreigners, so that we know which chiefs we should indicate on our identity national  registration cards.”

And Milandile appealed to political players to stop concentrating on baseless accusations which he said is derailing the economic progress that the country has enjoyed.

“As youths, we are the drivers of Zambia’s democracy, we therefore  sincerely appeal to the political leaders and  players against derailing the nation in cheap politics and propaganda,” he said.

He said the behaviour of the Chief and the UPND was unZambian.

“Any group of people that feel they are more Zambian than others should stay away from participating in the democratic dispensation of a nation hence I am calling upon the UPND to stay away from taking part in Zambia’s governance systems for exhibiting conduct not in the interest of the spirit one Zambia one Nation.

“If a man who was born in Chimwemwe, once elected to position of MP, with Zambian parents can be purported to be a foreigner, then everybody is as-well foreign in this Nation, hence they should tell US who the true Zambians are and where we should immediately deport the Nsenga people of Eastern Province, Zambians born in the Copperbelt Province as well as other tribes.

“As the smart age we shall not take part in cheap politics aimed at derailing the progress of our nation, we have a huge task to meaningfully contribute to the development of Zambia hence we shall champion a democratic dispensation free from mediocrity. I wish to encourage my fellow youths to be beacons of hope and spearhead a democratic dispensation that will build and transform mother Zambia.”

He has since called on the UPND, Chief Mukuni and Mulongoti to stop dividing the nation on tribal lines.

“I am calling upon the UPND, Chief Mukuni and Mike Mulongoti to apologise to the Zambian people for championing politics likely to cause breach of peace, enmity and division among tribes,” he said.

  3. Where was this Mwenya nanya when RB was being probed by the same PF he is defending today? Walenya? Coz RB was almost going at that moment, no tribal remarks were mentioned. And not so much fearful complaints were raised by MMD unlike during the ECL era. Ask Dora, if you have notice she has toned down this time and not the Dora of the then MMD. Just what is your fear? Let us just deal with issues here, away with dividing our One Zambia One Nation. Listen, to clear this issue is for the head himself clearing himself and not those of you who have just known him today due to your poverty levels bamakaka. Mulibe nsoni? Mulimbikila nkani siili yanu. Shame shame!
Also to our Royal Highnesses, please keep away from public pronouncements. The best way is to summon who ever, sit that someone, advice, rebuke and it ends there. Not going publicly. You will end up losing respect by politicians. I rest my PEN!!!!!
